Record 1 1986-06-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Computer Memories
CONT

A hardware stack is implemented directly on the MPU(Microprocessor Unit) chip by a set of internal registers.... The advantage of a hardware stack is the high speed inherent to the use of internal registers, while the disadvantage is the limitation imposed on the depth of the stack.

Record 2 1985-01-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Storage Media (Data Processing)
CONT

A hardware stack is implemented directly on a MPU chip by a set of internal registers. N registers are dedicated to a stack operation. The advantage of a hardware stack is the high speed inherent to the use of internal registers, while the disadvantage is the limitation imposed on the depth of the stack. Whenever the n registers are full, the internal stack is full.

OBS

Stack: a stack is a "last-in first-out" (LIFO) structure.

Domaine(s)
  • Supports d'information (Informatique)
CONT

DEF

The stack pointer for the interrupt stack. Unlike the stack pointers for process context stacks, which are stored in the hardware PCB, the interrupt stack pointer is stored in an internal register.
