The technology of EBR is based on the fundamental principles of electrochemistry, microbiology, and electrokinetics. When wastewater enters the chamber of EBR, it undergoes an electrochemical reaction. This reaction causes a voltage gradient across the chamber that drives the movement of the charged ions. These charged ions create an electric field, which promotes the transfer of electrons between the bacterial cells present in the wastewater. The bacteria remain active during this process and consume the organic and inorganic contaminants, present in the wastewater. As a result, the contaminants are degraded into simpler forms and eventually transformed into harmless by-products or released into the environment. 2, record 1, English, - electro%2Dbiochemical%20reactor

Intoxication chronique. Rhizodegradation... is a much slower process than phytodegradation. Microorganisms(yeast, fungi, or bacteria) consume and digest organic substances for nutrition and energy. Certain microorganisms can digest organic substances such as fuels or solvents that are hazardous to humans and break them down into harmless products through biodegradation. Another defence used on occasion is that of abnormal use. In Rae v. The therapeutic use of bacteriophages to treat pathogenic bacterial infections. 4, record 27, English, - phage%20therapy

Bacteriophages are much more specific than antibiotics, so they can hypothetically be chosen to be indirectly harmless not only to the host organism(human, animal, or plant), but also to other beneficial bacteria, such as gut flora, reducing the chances of opportunistic infections. They would have a high therapeutic index, that is, phage therapy would be expected to give rise to few side effects. Because phages replicate in vivo, a smaller effective dose can be used. On the other hand, this specificity is also a disadvantage : a phage will only kill a bacterium if it is a match to the specific strain. Consequently phage mixtures are often applied to improve the chances of success, or samples can be taken and an appropriate phage identified and grown. 4, record 27, English, - phage%20therapy

Record number: 27, Textual support number: 2 CONT
3, record 27, French, - phagoth%C3%A9rapie

Counting coup was a relatively harmless act of bravery and war honor of the highest grade. Any blow struck against the enemy counted as a coup, but the most prestigious acts included touching an enemy warrior, with the hand or with a coup stick. The term is of French origin from the noun coup(pronounced/ku/) which means a hit, a blow or a strike. The expression can be seen as referring to "counting strikes". Coups were recorded by notches in the coup stick, or by feathers in the headdress of a warrior who was rewarded with them for an act of bravery. 1, record 39, English, - coup%20stick

Lockout and tagging ensures that hazardous energy sources are under the control of each worker. Serious or fatal accidents can occur when people assume that machinery is turned off or made harmless but it isn’t. Lockout is a procedure that prevents the release of hazardous energy. It often involves workers using a padlock to keep a switch in the "off" position, or to isolate the energy of moving parts. This prevents electric shock, sudden movement of components, chemical combustion, falling counterweights, and other actions that can endanger lives. Grape phylloxera, Daktulosphaira vitifoliae (Fitch) is an insect pest which attacks many grape species both wild and cultivated. During feeding, phylloxera secrete a chemical which causes plant tissue to grow near the feeding site, resulting in the characteristic galls. Phylloxera is an indirect pest of grapes, damaging vines by feeding on plant sap from roots, leaves and tendrils, but not causing actual fruit injury. It is often described as an "aphid-like", sucking insect or a "vine louse". 6, record 47, English, - grape%20phylloxera

The HIV-hunting virus has been designed by Dr. John Rose and his colleagues at Yale University School of Medicine this year. They worked with a well-understood virus that infects cattle, known as VSV, or vesicular stomatitis virus and stripped out the gene that makes its protein coat. In its place, they inserted human genes for the two proteins that constitutes the T-cell lack. This created a novel virus, coated with T-cell lock proteins avid to find HIV keys, a sort of HIV in reverse. When added to culture of infected human T-cells, the redesigned viruses sought out and killed them. 1, record 79, English, - HIV%2Dhunting%20virus

... a simpler indicator laboratory test has been devised. This test takes from 24 to 48 hours to perform. The principle of this test is based on the fact that human and warm blooded animals grow in their intestines a family of bacteria called coliform bacteria. These organisms are usually harmless, but are relatively easy and inexpensive to test for. Since coliform bacteria are present in human and animal excrement only, whenever a sample of water shows a presence of coliform, the water is immediately assumed to contain human sewage and is therefore declared unsafe for human consumption. 1, record 82, English, - indicator%20laboratory%20test

1, record 82, French, - analyse%20de%20laboratoire%20par%20indicateur
