... using input-based measures for measuring [fishing] overcapacity is very complicated. It is because these measures involve not only the vessel used to harvest fish, but also other factors, such as labour, capital and fish stocks. Furthermore, seasonality and fluctuation of stocks, the condition of multi-species and multi-gear fisheries can increase the complexity when determining the optimal mix of inputs needed in producing a desired output level. 1, record 1, English, - input%2Dbased%20capacity%20measure

Fungi are a major source of spoilage in cereal grains, causing visible and invisible damage to the kernels. They can be divided into two major groups : field fungi and storage fungi. This is a natural division based on the moisture content of the kernels. During the early development of grain in the field, the moisture content of the kernels is high. As the grain matures, the moisture level gradually drops until at harvest, a mature kernel has from 13 to 16% moisture. Field fungi require higher moisture levels, while storage fungi can survive at lower levels. Thus, in the grain silos where the kernels finally mature, the storage fungi take over from the field fungi. The most important field fungi are Alternaria, Cladosporium, Fusarium and Helmintosporium. The most important storage fungi are Aspergillus and various Peniccilium species, which are active in the moisture range of 13 to 18%. 1, record 5, English, - storage%20fungi

Preharvest sprouting(PHS) is a phenomenon whereby seeds germinate while still attached to the mother plant. The occurrence of PHS in hexaploid wheat(Triticum aestivum L.) can drastically lower grain quality resulting in reduced prices for farmers. Wheat is susceptible to PHS anytime cool wet weather persists near harvest maturity, making it a problem in nearly all wheat growing regions worldwide. The main factor contributing to PHS susceptibility is the low level of seed dormancy encountered in modern cultivated varieties. 4, record 8, English, - preharvest%20sprouting

Canadian Rural Partnership, Pilot Projects 2000-2001. New Brunswick. Federal Partners : Environment Canada; Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Canada. This project will provide technical information on rockweed, a form of algae, to a working group of federal, provincial and municipal representatives, with the aim of expanding the harvest of this resource in New Brunswick. Information gathered will be used to assess potential impacts of the rockweed harvest on marine habitat, and to determine the harvest level at which significant environmental changes can be measured. 1, record 15, English, - Using%20Associated%20Species%20as%20Potential%20Indicators%20of%20Environmental%20Change%20Related%20to%20the%20Harvest%20of%20Rockweed
