Collectively, temperature, water availability, atmospheric gases, aeration of the soil, mineral nutrients, etc. modulate all the gene activities. The time the genotype uses(needs) to develop to harvest maturity is strongly modulated by both temperature and daylength. Numerous outbreaks associated with viral contamination of fresh fruits and vegetables have been reported worldwide over the last decade. Fresh produce can become contaminated with viruses through contact with human sewage or infected workers during primary production, harvest, post-harvest handling, processing, packaging, and distribution. Unlike bacteria, human enteric viruses cannot multiply in food, as they need to enter living human cells to replicate. Grapes for late-harvest wine are left on the vine for several weeks or in some cases months after the usual harvest. With more time, the berries become riper and thus sweeter. They may also begin to lose water through evaporation, further concentrating the natural fruit sugars. Literally, a crop in the process of growth, an unmatured crop. But a disputed term in legal parlance. Some authorities hold that a growing crop may be either above or below the surface of the soil, while other authorities hold that a crop is not a growing crop unless it shows above ground, and that underground sprouts do not constitute such a crop. Again, some authorities hold that a crop is growing from the time the seed is planted until the harvest, while other authorities hold that a matured, ungathered crop is not growing. Whether grass in a pasture is a growing crop is also a controverted question.(Ballentine's, 3rd ed., 1969, p. 538) 1, record 12, English, - growing%20crop

Determining the moisture content of grain is an operation of particular importance at all stages of the post-harvest system. Before the harvest, for example, it permits an estimation of the degree of maturity of the grain. After threshing, it is used for deciding on methods and durations of drying. Before processing of products, it shows whether the grain is in condition for treatment. At the time of marketing, it reveals the quantity of dry matter that is being bought, and thus permits establishment of the fair sales price(water does not have the same market value as grain). Before and during storage, it helps to determine warehousing conditions and to evaluate the state of conservation of grain. 2, record 13, English, - moisture%20determination

2, record 13, French, - d%C3%A9termination%20de%20la%20teneur%20en%20eau

Pongal(in Tamil) is an Indian festival to give thanks for the harvest. Pongal in Tamil means ’boiling over’. It is traditionally celebrated at the time of harvest of crops and hence is a celebration of the prosperity associated with the event. Pongal is celebrated by all people in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. While Pongal is predominantly a Tamil festival, the same period also marks similar festivals celebrated in several other places under different names. In Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, the harvest festival Sankranthi is celebrated. In northern India, it is called Makar Sankranti. In Maharashtra and Gujarat, it is the date of the annual kite-flying day, Uttarayan. It also coincides with the harvest festival in Punjab and Haryana, known as Lohri. 1, record 16, English, - Pongal

1, record 16, French, - Pongal
