HARVESTING AID [3 records]

Record 1 2014-01-29

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atomic Physics
DEF

Any device capable of assembling objects at the atomic level by combining individual molecules into the structures required.

CONT

In his popular book "Engines of Creation, "author and innovator, Eric Drexler, proposed the concept of a nanoassembler, a tiny robot equipped with the ability to construct with the aid of many others, useful objects by identifying raw materials at the atomic, molecular or, at least, the nanometer scale, then assembling these tiny constituents into a complex structure. The nanoassembler would also have the ability to reproduce itself in anticipation of a given task, then, presumably, disassemble those nanoassemblers no longer needed, harvesting the raw materials for subsequent projects.

Key term(s)
  • nano-assembler

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique atomique
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Crop Protection
  • Drying Techniques (Farming)
  • Agricultural Chemicals
CONT

Desiccants are chemicals that kill leaves of plants; the leaves may either drop off or remain attached; in the harvesting process the leaves are usually shattered and blown away from the harvested material.

CONT

Desiccants include all chemicals that are intended to kill and accelerate the drying of plant tissue. Typical applications are made to aid in harvesting crops such as cotton and potatoes.

OBS

The desiccant used on potatoes for top killing is called a top killer.

OBS

Term used at the Canadian Grain Commission.

Key term(s)
  • top killer
