CONT

Virtual reality(VR) has been an area of research for over 40 years yet only recently has it begun to achieve public acceptance. One key to this has been the development of "cinematic virtual reality"(CVR) where media fidelity approaches that found in feature film. Unlike traditional VR, CVR limits the level of control users have within the environment to choosing viewpoints rather than interacting with the world itself. This means that CVR production arguably represents a new type of filmmaking.

CONT

Cinematic virtual reality (cinematic VR) is one of the emerging mediums alongside virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) with the production of more advanced head mounted displays (HMD) headsets and 360 cameras. It can be argued that cinematic VR and VR are the same medium, both utilising virtual environments (VEs) and HMD headsets with the major differences being primarily in interactivity. Cinematic VR draws heavily from the film industry while VR draws from the games industry.

Genericide refers to the gradual process of a trademarked term becoming generic through use by the common individual. When a term becomes generic, the term cannot receive a trademark nor can current trademarks be enforced. This process can be harmful to companies, but they do not have much control over how the common person refers to their trademarked products. For example, "escalator" was originally a protected trademark used to designate the moving stairs manufactured by a specific company. Over time, the common individual used the term to refer to any moving stairs and thus ["escalator"] lost its trademark protection.

CONT

Wind energy is the world's fastest growing renewable source of electricity … the atmospheric flows are strongly volatile, and therefore, the average wind speed at a given location is a very poor predictor of the energy output of a wind turbine. The basic requirement for wind power estimates is an adequate characterization of the empirical probability distribution of wind speeds since wind direction is less important because of the well developed methods of yaw control for modern turbines. The statistical description is highly simplified when a measured histogram can be accurately fitted by an analytical probability density function(PDF) with a few parameters. The traditional approach of modeling the wind speed PDF is based on the Rayleigh and the more flexible Weibull distributions. However, several authors noted that Weibull fits of empirical data have low quality at several locations, mostly over land.

The micro-WIS(Micro Wireless Instrumentation System) consists of tiny autonomous sensors for data acquisition... This HTD [Head-of-Train Telemetry Device] is designed to demonstrate the micro-WIS transmitter and recorder. One of the objectives of this HTD is to obtain meaningful real-time measurements for use in the orbiter's Environmental Control and Life Support System(ECLSS) operations. The micro-WIS transmitter's simultaneous real-time measurements of air cabin temperatures in many interior compartments of the orbiter will help ECLSS operations personnel address issues encountered on STS-88 and early International Space Station flights. Currently, only one temperature reading in the aft flight deck of the orbiter is available for adjusting model predictions for real-time environments. Micro-WIS will also reduce the time it takes the crew to obtain on-orbit temperature measurements and will increase the capability to monitor temperatures over long periods.... Micro-WIS data will also be used to validate cabin air temperature models that are used to make critical predictions of the dew point on early ISS [International Space Station] missions, which is important because orbiter cabin air exerts a significant influence on the entire station volume. Although the physical configuration of the air ducts in the orbiter cabin has been changed significantly, the sensors have remained the same and some temperature data has never been available.

These increases are in distinct contrast to what is seen in a few other areas of the world where yields remain low. Improves soil and water management, fertilizer use, pest control, improved varieties, better choice of land, power machinery and other technological improvements have been major factors in increased yield. In recent years, yields in most countries have levelled off. In contrast, yields in India, Mexico, Pakistan and some other developing countries continue to rise. To place a tennis ball in such a position on the opposing court, as to force an opponent to stretch out in order just to make contact with the ball.

OBS

"To spread somebody", "to pull/stretch somebody out wide", "to pull somebody out of position" are all closely related expressions to render the ubiquitous French term "déborder". Other quasi-synonyms : in trouble,(to be) pulled off the court,(to be) out of control, threatened(=under threat), forcing shot, ball out of reach, to move sb. around(=move sb. left and right, to run one's opponent(from) corner to corner), to run sb. around the court, to break sb. CONT

CONT

If you are forced wide, with your opponent moving to cover a sideline return, a cross court response can put you back in the rally.

CONT

OBS

CONT

Coating weights : Pure tin coating on a hot-dip tin plate is mechanically distributed over sheet surface by tinning rolls. Due to nature of this tinning operation and elevated temperature of metal it is not possible to control, within close limits, tin coating weight. For these and other reasons, coating is measured and described by "tin pot yield" method. Total weight(in pounds) of tin consumed in manufacture of one base box, is pot yield. Terms, charcoal plate and coke plate, which in last century described quality of iron used as a base metal, have now come to be applied to tin plate of certain coating thickness. Amount of coating on coke plates is generally between 1. 24 and 2. 5 pounds per base box-on charcoal plates between 3 pounds and 5 pounds per base box. For roofing applications, heavier charcoal weight coatings have always been preferred. Common cokes, 1. 25 lb/base box. Standard cokes, 1. 50 lb/base box; Best cokes, 1. 70 lb/base box. "Kanners" special cokes, 2. 0 lb/base box.... Weight of coating on an electrolytic plate is a measurement of amount of coating on both sides of sheet, expressed in grams per square meter. Prior to adoption of this system, a "pot yield" method was used. The coating designation numbers are a hold over from this earlier system.

OBS

Various grades of hot-dipped in tin plate were produced, the terminology indicating in a general way the weight of tin coating or, more exactly, the amount of tin used to produce the given unit or base box of plate. Coke tin plate has always designated the plate produced with the lowest amount of tin and formerly was called Cokes or Common Cokes. In ascending weight of coating, the various grades were Common Cokes, Standard Cokes, Best Cokes, and Kanners Special. Charcoal tin plate carries still heavier coatings including 1A and 2A.

Although consumers are actively involved in purchasing decisions, they often relinquish control to surrogates. These surrogates may collect market data, evaluate competitive alternatives, and conduct transactions on behalf of the consumer. Surrogate services have distinguishing qualities, such as : 1. extent of marketplace involvement, 2. personalization, 3. impartiality, 4. taste, and 5. control. The first quality is determined by how much guidance surrogates provide. Surrogates are personalized by their tendency to operate at the level of the individual consumer. Surrogates’ impartiality is relative to their vested interest in the choice of one product over another, and their advice is sought on taste and style. Control is determined by how much decision-making power the consumer relinquishes to the surrogate. Two types of surrogates are described, and survey data are presented that review functional and intangible surrogate service benefits.

During the past several decades the coastal States of the world have been extending seaward their claims to jurisdiction over what has traditionally been recognized as the free seas. Claims have been both geographical, applied to specific maritime areas enclosed by boundaries, and functional, pertaining to certain competences such as control over fishing or drilling for hydrocarbons on the continental shelf. The net effect of these claims has been the gradual partitioning of nearly one-third of the global ocean into various types of maritime zones.
