Various factors contribute to wind turbine induced bird mortality, such as the wind turbine design and arrangement, bird species, and climatic variables.... The bird mortality rate increased in areas where turbines are located on ridges, on upwind slopes, or close to the bird migration routes. For example, if a wind farm is on a bird migratory route, birds have to avoid the wind farm and deviate from their usual route. The extra deviation work will increase the energy expenditure of the birds and reduce their survival rates. This wind farm barrier effect on birds is species-specific. 1, record 5, English, - wind%20farm%20barrier%20effect

Introducing rams to a group of ewes that have been kept apart from the rams for a period of time results in the induction of heat about one estrous cycle interval later. This "ram effect" has been used to induce synchronized breeding activity in sheep flocks during the non-seasonal periods. The ram effect is also used to advance the breeding season. As no physical or visual contact between rams and ewes is needed, this effect has been suggested to be mediated by pheromones. 2, record 14, English, - ram%20effect

Social epidemiology assumes that the distribution of advantages and disadvantages in a society reflects the distribution of health and disease. Previous Victimization. Researchers have found that some people become victimized again and again throughout their lives... The relationships between trauma incidents are quite complex : new victimization interferes with the person's ability to cope with past trauma; and previous victimization affects how he or she will cope with the new trauma. In effect, the repeated victimizations interrupt the person's normal healing process, especially if the revictimization occurs in a relatively short period after initial victimization... 1, record 27, English, - previous%20victimization

Research that takes the gender dimension into account is found in most scientific disciplines. For instance, a legal research project may investigate how gender-neutral legal rules affect women and men differently. An example of this is the effect of retirement pension rules. In many countries the rules are universal and gender neutral, and pensions are based on previous income. In practice, however, this theoretically gender‑neutral rule may have different outcomes for women and men. Women who have worked part-time or stayed at home to take care of children receive much lower pensions than men(and women) who have worked full-time. In legal research, the gender dimension involves exploring how gender relations influence the distribution of rights and duties, benefits and disadvantages, legal protection and punishment. 2, record 53, English, - gender%20dimension

There was no forethought to go and record what buzzards were eating, but having seen something exciting the observer may want to record it in a local bird report or online. Why should a modern scientist bother with such unsystematic data when trying to make an assessment of buzzard diet? ... while such chance observations can’t be used on their own to understand common buzzard behaviour, they do supplement the more rigorous data collection and help to complete the picture of diet diversity. 4, record 60, English, - incidental%20observation

They destroy and remove the upper layers of skin to allow the skin to regrow. 3, record 63, English, - laser%20resurfacing

The hydraulic needle effect is an important factor to consider when employing OC [oleoresin capsicum]. This is the consequence of the OC particulates penetrating the soft tissue of the eye. This is due to the correlation between the distance and the amount of pressure(size of the canister) in which it is delivered. Concerns have been raised about the possibility of soft tissue injury, prolonged irritation or possibly infection. Because of the possibility of the hydraulic needle effect, minimum safe distances have been established for each delivery system. 2, record 80, English, - hydraulic%20needle%20effect

Uranium-water power reactors have a complicated core composition, and temperature changes, the influence of which exceeds that of delayed neutrons several times, are important in the reactivity balance of such reactors. The accuracy with which the temperature effect of the reactivity can be predicted by calculation techniques depends greatly upon the extent to which these techniques correctly describe the physics of the development of the process and … the accuracy decreases considerably in proportion to the complexity of the core composition. 1, record 82, English, - temperature%20effect

The ICBL was launched in October 1992 by a group of six non-governmental organizations : Handicap International, Human Rights Watch, Medico International, Mines Advisory Group, Physicians for Human Rights and Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation. These founding organizations witnessed the horrendous effect of mines on the communities they were working with in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America and saw how mines hampered and even prevented their development efforts in these countries. The International Campaign to Ban Landmines(ICBL) is a global network in over 70 countries that works for a world free of antipersonnel landmines and cluster munitions, where landmine and cluster munition survivors can lead fulfilling lives. The Campaign was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its efforts to bring about the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty. Since then, we have been advocating for the words of the treaty to become a reality, demonstrating on a daily basis that civil society has the power to change the world. As a member of the Cluster Munition Coalition, the ICBL is engaged in the global effort to ban cluster munitions and to address their humanitarian impact. In December 2006, the ICBL decided to engage extensively in the global effort to prohibit cluster munitions. This marked the first time that the ICBL had become significantly engaged on an issue other than antipersonnel mines. The main reasons for the ICBL' s decision were that cluster munitions inevitably end up leaving behind large numbers of unexploded ’duds’ which behave essentially like antipersonnel mines; that many ICBL members had been already working extensively on cluster munitions; and that international efforts to achieve a global ban on cluster munitions were at a crucial point, a point where the ICBL could have a meaningful impact. 1, record 85, English, - International%20Campaign%20to%20Ban%20Landmines

1, record 85, French, - Campagne%20internationale%20pour%20interdire%20les%20mines

Real prices are those that have been adjusted to remove the effect of changes in the purchasing power of the dollar; they usually reflect buying power relative to a reference year. Prior to 1996, real prices were expressed in constant dollars, a measure based on the weights of goods and services in a single year, usually a recent year. In 1996, the U. S. [United States] Department of Commerce introduced the chained-dollar measure. The new measure is based on the average weights of goods and services in successive pairs of years. It is "chained" because the second year in each pair, with its weights, becomes the first year of the next pair. The advantage of using the chained-dollar measure is that it is more closely related to any given period covered and is subject to less distortion over time. 3, record 97, English, - chained%20dollar
