Canadian benefit eligibility is a complex calculation based upon a variable entrance requirement (VER) in which benefit qualification and entitlements are determined by the local unemployment rate. In these circumstances, exhaustion can take place anywhere along the entitlement schedule from a minimum of 17 weeks to a maximum of 50 weeks under the UI [Unemployment Insurance] system. Under Employment Insurance, the range of weeks runs from 14 to 45 weeks. 1, record 1, English, - benefit%20eligibility

The most commonly employed technique for determining causation-in-fact is the "but for" test, sometimes called the sine qua non test. It works like this : if the accident would not have occurred but for the defendant's negligence, then his conduct is a cause of the injury. Put another way, if the accident would have occurred just the same, whether or not the defendant acted, then his conduct is not a cause of the loss. Thus the act of the defendant must have made a difference. If his conduct had nothing to do with the loss, he escapes liability. 3, record 5, English, - but%20for%20test

There is nothing mysterious about selling short. I simply put in an order to my broker in which I agree, in return for a certain price now, to deliver at some later date an amount of grain. Usually, at the time of putting in the order, I do not have the grain on hand. But I can legally fulfil my contract by later "covering", i. e. buying the grain and making delivery. 6, record 13, English, - sell%20short

Vendre, à un prix déterminé, des marchandises, des titres ou autres instruments financiers que l'on ne possède pas au moment de la conclusion du marché, avec l'espoir de les acheter à prix moindre lorsque la baisse des prix que l'on prévoit se produira. There is nothing more difficult to attempt, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of the new order of things. Because the innovator has for enemies all those who have done well under old conditions, and only lukewarm defenders in those who might do well.
