Patient medical devices often have limited resources and most IMDs [implantable medical devices] have tightly-constrained processing, storage, and power resources. Nevertheless, long-term patient medical devices must store up to three to twelve months of patient data between follow-up sessions. Frequently, to maximize available resource utilization, only one set of patient measures are recorded per day and are averaged weekly to compress data storage overhead. As a result, patient follow-up can be artificially restricted by the data actually captured. For instance, the monitoring features enabled by a patient medical device can potentially limit the scope of medical review and evaluation by filtering out transient but medically significant events. 1, record 8, English, - patient%20follow%2Dup

A cutback is a surfing maneuver with which you change your direction on the rail by going back to the breaking part of the wave. See, when you’re at full speed, there's a big chance that you’re getting away from the breaking wave and heading towards the flat spots of the shoulder that don’t have the intrinsic power to carry you. So, you’ll lose speed, and you’ll need to get back to the wave to gain as much speed as you can. That's when you should perform a cutback. In that sense, a cutback isn’t only an aesthetic move, as it gets you back to the power source of the wave : its curl. 2, record 9, English, - cutback

The opportunity for harnessing the power of the ocean to sequester and safely store carbon dioxide is massive compared to that of its terrestrial counterparts. The ocean already holds more carbon than any other part of Earth's biosphere and has the potential to contribute even more. The sheer scale of the ocean also means that any marine carbon dioxide removal solutions proven to be viable and safe have the potential to go to the scale needed. A number of ocean-based CDR approaches are being explored, each requiring additional research and testing. 1, record 13, English, - marine%20carbon%20dioxide%20removal

Invisiblization. This is a process that has much in common with marginalization, but refers specifically to how groups are represented in language and imagery. The basic idea is that powerful, dominant groups are constantly presented to us-for example through the media-and are strongly associated with positions of power, status, prestige and influence, while other groups are rarely, if ever, seen in this light-it is as if they have been rendered invisible. 1, record 38, English, - invisiblization

In International Law, equity may be considered a secondary source, and by Article 38(2) of the Statute of the International Court of Justice, referring to Article 38(1), «This provision shall not prejudice the power of the court to decide a case ex aequo et bono, if the parties agree thereto». Though the Court has thus not been expressly authorized to apply equity as distinguished from law, Article 38(1) c) expressly directs the application of «general principles of law recognized by civilized nations»... and in several States, as noted above, principles of equity have an established place in their municipal legal systems. No doubt the international judge can decide according to principles of equity in absence of rules of positive law, but it is doubtful whether he can decide «contra legem», i. e. contrary to such rules when they exist. 1, record 63, English, - equity

1, record 63, French, - %C3%A9quit%C3%A9

Like poverty tourism to the favelas in Brazil, philanthropic tourism to villages in Africa, or even aid tourism to far-flung volunteer missions, disaster tourism raises uncomfortable questions about power and inequality. The ICBL was launched in October 1992 by a group of six non-governmental organizations : Handicap International, Human Rights Watch, Medico International, Mines Advisory Group, Physicians for Human Rights and Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation. These founding organizations witnessed the horrendous effect of mines on the communities they were working with in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America and saw how mines hampered and even prevented their development efforts in these countries. The International Campaign to Ban Landmines(ICBL) is a global network in over 70 countries that works for a world free of antipersonnel landmines and cluster munitions, where landmine and cluster munition survivors can lead fulfilling lives. The Campaign was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its efforts to bring about the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty. Since then, we have been advocating for the words of the treaty to become a reality, demonstrating on a daily basis that civil society has the power to change the world. As a member of the Cluster Munition Coalition, the ICBL is engaged in the global effort to ban cluster munitions and to address their humanitarian impact. In December 2006, the ICBL decided to engage extensively in the global effort to prohibit cluster munitions. This marked the first time that the ICBL had become significantly engaged on an issue other than antipersonnel mines. The main reasons for the ICBL' s decision were that cluster munitions inevitably end up leaving behind large numbers of unexploded ’duds’ which behave essentially like antipersonnel mines; that many ICBL members had been already working extensively on cluster munitions; and that international efforts to achieve a global ban on cluster munitions were at a crucial point, a point where the ICBL could have a meaningful impact. 1, record 74, English, - International%20Campaign%20to%20Ban%20Landmines

1, record 74, French, - Campagne%20internationale%20pour%20interdire%20les%20mines

In the development discourse, "[local] ownership" does not have its conventional meaning, i. e., rights of exclusive possession. Nor is it used in the organizational sense, referring to the owners of a business firm, or to the members of a non-profit association. "[Local] ownership" refers instead to relations among stakeholders in development, particularly their respective capacity, power or influence to set and take responsibility for a development agenda, and to muster and sustain support for that. 2, record 75, English, - local%20ownership

2, record 75, French, - prise%20en%20charge%20locale

Our automatic transaxle option represents breakthrough technology. Here's how it works : Imagine trying to run in soft sand. Your feet will ship a little and you will have to work hander to keep moving. Similarly, conventionally designed automatic transmissions have some interval hydraulic slip at all speeds. Our new automatic transaxle features "split-torque" design, which transmits power to the wheels both hydraulically and mechanically. At highway speeds newly all power is transmitted mechanically. Therefore, our new automatic transaxle delivers more power because of this mechanical connection and there's virtually no wasted power. 2, record 76, English, - automatic%20transaxle

Real prices are those that have been adjusted to remove the effect of changes in the purchasing power of the dollar; they usually reflect buying power relative to a reference year. Prior to 1996, real prices were expressed in constant dollars, a measure based on the weights of goods and services in a single year, usually a recent year. In 1996, the U. S. [United States] Department of Commerce introduced the chained-dollar measure. The new measure is based on the average weights of goods and services in successive pairs of years. It is "chained" because the second year in each pair, with its weights, becomes the first year of the next pair. The advantage of using the chained-dollar measure is that it is more closely related to any given period covered and is subject to less distortion over time. 3, record 83, English, - chained%20dollar
