The barn drying of hay... is a process whereby partially dried herbage is dried sufficiently for storage by blowing air through it. When making hay in the field, it is in the final stages of curing-the reduction of moisture from about 35% to 25%... that the major losses of dry matter take place through too severe handling, and damage by the weather.

OBS

Although the term "drying" is sometimes used to refer to "curing" (i.e. field drying and barn drying were documented) it is a more general term and somewhat inexact in that curing is not simply a drying process but also involves fermentation.
