Two types of hay are generally available to the horse owner : Seeds hay – cut from specially sown grass leys.... Meadow hay – cut from permanent pasture. This [hay] will contain whatever was growing at the time, often a wide variety of grasses and broad-leaved plants, some of which may be toxic. Opinion varies as to which is better for horses, but meadow hay has more variety and if hay forms the main bulk of an animal' s diet throughout the winter it is more likely to fulfil nutritional requirements than hay made from a single grass species. 3, record 1, English, - meadow%20hay

Men and women also bartered with their neighbours and friends for much of what they needed. John Smith of Forty Mile Creek(present day Grimsby), for example, kept an account book that documented a variety of exchanges with several neighbours. Over a period of time in 1796, Smith supplied his father-in-law with hay, beef and wheat, and in return, received five quarts of salt and six shillings cash. How farm families disposed of their produce depended a great deal on personal circumstances, needs, market prices and the degree of risk one was willing to incur in the pursuit of profit. 1, record 3, English, - quart%20of%20salt

There is one class of goods, it seems, in respect of which there may be a sale even though they are not existing at the time of the contract. The legal property in such goods can pass to the buyer without any need to conform to the provisions of the Act relating to the transfer of property. Such goods are those which have "potential existence". The distinction existed at common law between future goods to be manufactured or acquired by the seller, the position with respect to which has been considered above, and future goods in which the seller had what was called "a potential property". Such goods comprehended things which were the natural produce or expected increase of something already owned or possessed by the seller, for example, hay to be grown in a field, wool to be grown on sheep owned by the seller, or milk to be yielded by the seller's cows in the coming month. 1, record 4, English, - potential%20property

For early-spring grazing.... Young, vigorous stands of alfalfa or alfalfa-grass mixtures in which the alfalfa has not been injured or weakened by bacterial wilt disease may be grazed evenly and heavily for about a week in early spring if the ground is firm. Excellent pasturage is provided by this treatment; it also delays the time of cutting and results, in a finer and better quality of hay. 1, record 5, English, - early%2Dspring%20grazing

2, record 5, French, - d%C3%A9primage
