3, record 21, French, - Programme%20d%27am%C3%A9lioration%20de%20la%20salubrit%C3%A9%20des%20aliments

Exposure is about where, and for how long the element at risk is positioned in the terrain. For backcountry travel, the exposure component of risk is the single most important consideration for controlling risk. This is because a person is capable of having complete control over where and when they travel, and is therefore charged with absolute responsibility for his or her own risk. Even during periods of high avalanche hazard, a simple reduction in exposure will reduce the risk. 2, record 24, English, - avalanche%20risk

Vulnerability is a concept that expresses susceptibility to the impacts of avalanche hazard, and it must relate to a specific element at risk. An old growth tree and a person standing side by side will have very different vulnerabilities to the hazard; therefore, while the hazard may be the same, the risk to each of them will be different. The person may be susceptible to Size 2 avalanches, whereas the tree might be susceptible to only a Size 4 – thus, the person has a higher vulnerability and subsequently higher risk. 2, record 24, English, - avalanche%20risk

Engineering controls help reduce exposure to potential hazards either by isolating the hazard or by removing it from the work environment. Engineering controls include mechanical ventilation and process enclosure. They are important because they are built into the work process. Engineering controls are usually preferred to other control measures such as the use of personal protective equipment. Substitution of a less hazardous material or industrial process is the best way to reduce a hazard and is often considered to be a type of engineering control. 2, record 25, English, - engineering%20control

2, record 25, French, - mesure%20d%27ing%C3%A9nierie

Bomb blast net curtains were invented by the British during World War II for reducing the glass hazard associated with explosion incidents. They consist of translucent Kevlar curtains that are longer and wider than the window and have weights at the bottom. The excess curtain length is placed into a box at the base of the window. When an explosion occurs, the curtains billow out, permitting the air-blast to pass through, but capturing a significant portion of the glass fragments. The British often augment this with 4 mil film coating with blast curtains to provide an effective glass hazard mitigation design for annealed glass windows. 3, record 28, English, - glass%20hazard%20mitigation

Is Refrigerated Transportation Ready for HACCP?... Is HACCP the appropriate model for ensuring produce safety? The development of science based data and the practical evaluation of refrigerated transportation as a critical control point in a systematic hazard analysis of food safety for fresh produce has been minimal. Although more recently included in generic descriptions of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point templates or the current evolution of Good Agricultural Practices, there is precious little scientific documentation to form a solid foundation to build a HACCP equivalency program. 2, record 30, English, - refrigerated%20transport

Bird Strike Committee Canada(BSCC) is primarily concerned with reducing the bird strike hazard. BSCC' s main objective is to provide a mechanism for the discussion of matters relating to bird hazard awareness and wildlife control at Canadian airports. As well, BSCC provides a vehicle through which the concerns of airlines relating to bird hazard and wildlife control can be reviewed and referred to Transport Canada or the Department of National Defence as appropriate. BSCC also operates as a forum for the dissemination and exchange of information on bird hazards and wildlife control between experts in the field. Additionally, fundamental studies and research are carried out, with committee members helping directly or indirectly with a project. This research may involve the review of current practices or new initiatives that will be incorporated into airport control programs. 1, record 31, English, - Bird%20Strike%20Committee%20Canada
