Green chemistry, also called sustainable chemistry, is a chemical philosophy encouraging the design of products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances. Whereas environmental chemistry is the chemistry of the natural environment, and of pollutant chemicals in nature, green chemistry seeks to reduce and prevent pollution at its source. 3, record 11, English, - green%20chemistry

The concept of Sustainable Chemistry represents an area of innovation, which not only preserves resources, but also stands for a development process in the chemical industry. Sustainable Chemistry aspirates to raise the stake of less dangerous chemicals as well as production of environmentally high-quality products from preferable renewable resources. This obviates emissions and excessive consumption of resources like energy and materials. The principle of Sustainable Chemistry comprises important elements in areas like environment, economy and society. Sustainable Chemistry deals with the whole life of intrinsic safe chemicals and products, including their production, processing, use and disposal. Intrinsic safe chemicals and products are characterised by low toxicity to environment and human health and low persistence and accumulation potential. Thereby environment and human health are protected in the first place in the life of chemicals and socio-economic follow-up costs are avoided. Additionally, production of sustainable chemicals and products contributes to economic profit for innovative enterprises and thereby affords an opportunity for competitive advantage compared to production and marketing in old-fashioned concepts. This includes innovative concepts like chemical leasing and operation of (Quantitative) Structure-Activity Relationship [Q)SAR). 4, record 11, English, - green%20chemistry

5, record 11, French, - chimie%20verte

Landfill gas is a threat to human health and global warming, and flaring or utilizing it for energy greatly reduces its climate change impact. Burning LFG [landfill gas] also serves to mitigate its public health impact by destroying the majority of hazardous air pollutants in landfill gas through the combustion process. Furthermore, using LFG to produce electricity avoids the need to generate electricity at traditional power plants and thus reduces air pollution from these plants. However, LFG combustion produces minute quantities of dioxins, an extremely toxic group of chemicals that are harmful even in very small amounts. 4, record 17, English, - LFG%20combustion

Due to the diverse nature of what constitutes "low regulatory concern", there has always been difficulty in defining a single category or set of guidelines that readily capture the scope of possible reforms. The approach to date has been to identify case-by-case scenarios, which are then used to define or constitute a set of categories under the umbrella of "low regulatory concern" such as polymers of low concern(PLC) or early introduction permits for chemicals not classified as hazardous.... a single definition of LRCC [low regulatory concern chemicals] is not possible except in the most generic sense :Chemicals could qualify for reduced regulatory input on the basis of a definition of low risk or where regulatory input from elsewhere is sufficient to meet Australian requirements. 1, record 22, English, - polymer%20of%20low%20concern

The evaporation rate is a measure of how quickly the material becomes a vapour at normal room temperature. Usually, the evaporation rate is given in comparison to certain chemicals, such as butyl acetate, which evaporate fairly quickly. For example, the rate might be given as "0. 5(butyl acetate=1). "This means that, under specific conditions, 0. 5 grams of the material evaporates during the same time that 1 gram of butyl acetate evaporates. Often, the evaporation rate is given only as greater or less than 1, which means the material evaporates faster or slower than the comparison chemical. In general, a hazardous material with a higher evaporation rate presents a greater hazard than a similar compound with a lower evaporation rate. 3, record 28, English, - evaporation%20rate

3, record 28, French, - vitesse%20d%27%C3%A9vaporation

Join the volunteers who are painting yellow fish symbols beside sewers with local municipal approval. They also distribute fish-shaped brochures to remind people to dispose of household hazardous wastes in an environmentally-sound way. Each year, Canadians dump 300 million litres of used motor oil into the environment, with "down the storm drain" being one possible route of contamination. Most water that runs down the storm drains will flow directly into nearby creeks, rivers and lakes. The water goes down the storm drains ends up being the next town's drinking water. People may not realize that by using storm drains as "handy" places to dump unwanted household hazardous products, they are polluting the water. Responsibly disposing of household chemicals and automotive and lawn care products protects both our environment and our health. To date, the program has been approved by over 130 municipalities in Ontario. Since 1993, over a quarter of a million households in Ontario have been reached by the program. 1, record 30, English, - The%20Yellow%20Fish%20Road%20Storm%20Drain%20Marking%20Program

Thermal decomposition products are chemicals which may be formed when the material is heated but does not burn. These chemicals may be toxic, flammable or have other hazards. The chemicals released and their amounts vary depending upon conditions such as the temperature. The thermal decomposition products may be quite different from the chemicals formed by burning the same material(hazardous combustion products). It is important to know which chemicals are formed by thermal decomposition because this information is used to plan ventilation requirements for processes where a material may be heated. 1, record 35, English, - thermal%20decomposition%20product

1, record 38, French, - produit%20dangereux%20r%C3%A9sultant%20de%20la%20combustion
