The Controlled Products Regulations describe technical criteria for identifying materials which are classified as dangerously reactive. A dangerously reactive material can react vigorously : with water to produce a very toxic gas; on its own by polymerization or decomposition; or under conditions of shock, or an increase in pressure or temperature. A dangerously reactive material may cause a fire, explosion or other hazardous condition. It is very important to know which conditions(such as shock, heating or contact with water) may set off the dangerous reaction so that appropriate preventive measures can be taken.

Steep gullies, filled with ice and snow, are a frequent source of avalanches because they combine several hazardous features :. Often slope angles exceed 40° so that slab and loose snow avalanches are frequent.. Several independent starting zones can occur on the sides and at different elevations.. The snow condition/stability can vary widely over the length of the gully, making evaluation difficult.. Snow deposition and characteristics are radically affected by the weather in a gully..... The difficulty of escaping to the side and the probability of hitting rocks magnify the danger for persons caught.

Yellow Flame. This flame has a small blue-colored area at the bottom of the flame. The outer portion, or outer envelope, is completely yellow and is usually smoking. This smoke is unburned carbon from the fuel. The yellow, or luminous, portion of the flame is caused by the slow burning of the carbon that is being burnt. Soot is the outcome of the yellow flame which also produces a lower temperature than does the blue flame. The yellow flame is an indication of insufficient primary air. Incomplete combustion is also indicated by a yellow flame a hazardous condition that cannot be allowed.
