The application of free-flying space robots(FFSR) has achieved significant progress because of their ability to perform on-orbit servicing missions autonomously or telerobotically instead of human performing hazardous, monotonous and costly extra vehicular activities(EVA). Some applications of FFSR include inspection, repairing, assembling, refueling and docking with other spacecraft. As these tasks are dangerous for astronauts to perform in the space environment, space robots are expected to be utilized and therefore, a high level of accuracy is required for a successful mission. 2, record 2, English, - free%2Dflying%20space%20robot

Green chemistry, also called sustainable chemistry, is a chemical philosophy encouraging the design of products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances. Whereas environmental chemistry is the chemistry of the natural environment, and of pollutant chemicals in nature, green chemistry seeks to reduce and prevent pollution at its source. 3, record 33, English, - green%20chemistry

The concept of Sustainable Chemistry represents an area of innovation, which not only preserves resources, but also stands for a development process in the chemical industry. Sustainable Chemistry aspirates to raise the stake of less dangerous chemicals as well as production of environmentally high-quality products from preferable renewable resources. This obviates emissions and excessive consumption of resources like energy and materials. The principle of Sustainable Chemistry comprises important elements in areas like environment, economy and society. Sustainable Chemistry deals with the whole life of intrinsic safe chemicals and products, including their production, processing, use and disposal. Intrinsic safe chemicals and products are characterised by low toxicity to environment and human health and low persistence and accumulation potential. Thereby environment and human health are protected in the first place in the life of chemicals and socio-economic follow-up costs are avoided. Additionally, production of sustainable chemicals and products contributes to economic profit for innovative enterprises and thereby affords an opportunity for competitive advantage compared to production and marketing in old-fashioned concepts. This includes innovative concepts like chemical leasing and operation of (Quantitative) Structure-Activity Relationship [Q)SAR). 4, record 33, English, - green%20chemistry

Engineering controls help reduce exposure to potential hazards either by isolating the hazard or by removing it from the work environment. Engineering controls include mechanical ventilation and process enclosure. They are important because they are built into the work process. Engineering controls are usually preferred to other control measures such as the use of personal protective equipment. Substitution of a less hazardous material or industrial process is the best way to reduce a hazard and is often considered to be a type of engineering control. 2, record 34, English, - engineering%20control

2, record 34, French, - mesure%20d%27ing%C3%A9nierie

A slide presentation transferred to film, Waste Management-A Time for Action is a short, fact-filled documentary designed to inform the public of the urgent need for safe and effective methods of tracking, treating and disposing of or storing hazardous waste. The film explains what hazardous waste is, how we have disposed of it in the past, and how we must dispose of it in the future if we are to protect our environment and reduce health risks. It also gives several examples of how individuals and industry can and are decreasing the risks of hazardous waste by reduction, recovery, re-use and recycling. 1, record 61, English, - Waste%20Management%20%2D%20A%20Time%20for%20Action

Local exhaust ventilation is the removal of contaminated air directly at its source. This type of ventilation can help reduce worker exposure to airborne materials more effectively than general ventilation. This is because it does not allow the material to enter the work environment. Join the volunteers who are painting yellow fish symbols beside sewers with local municipal approval. They also distribute fish-shaped brochures to remind people to dispose of household hazardous wastes in an environmentally-sound way. Each year, Canadians dump 300 million litres of used motor oil into the environment, with "down the storm drain" being one possible route of contamination. Most water that runs down the storm drains will flow directly into nearby creeks, rivers and lakes. The water goes down the storm drains ends up being the next town's drinking water. People may not realize that by using storm drains as "handy" places to dump unwanted household hazardous products, they are polluting the water. Responsibly disposing of household chemicals and automotive and lawn care products protects both our environment and our health. To date, the program has been approved by over 130 municipalities in Ontario. Mobile/Transportable PCB Destruction. A number of companies have developed mobile/transportable PCB thermal destruction systems. These mobile/transportable systems have the advantage that destruction can be performed on-site, which eliminates the costs and risks of transporting wastes from a waste site to a stationary destruction facility. Few systems are truly mobile in that the system or system modules can travel by road to the site and be operative with no additional site assembling or fabrication. In general, the size and complexity of thermal destruction systems requires site preparation, system module assembly, and a commissioning trial burn period prior to hazardous waste operation.

Five collection stations will be set up and manned by employees of the Department trained in classifying and packaging requirements for hazardous wastes. Householders will be invited, through an Island-wide media blitz, to bring their hazardous wastes to one of the collection points for proper disposal. Wastes will be segregated; recyclable materials will be recovered; low hazard materials will be landfilled or burned; and hazardous wastes not amenable to on island disposal will be sent off site via a contracted licensed disposal firm. 1, record 79, English, - collection%20station
