DEF

A double helical structure assumed by double-stranded DNA, in which the phosphate groups form a dinucleotide repeating unit zigzagging up a left-handed helix with a single, deep groove...

OBS

[It] is particularly likely to occur in stretches of alternating purines and pyrimidines or under dehydrating conditions.

DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Mollusks, Echinoderms and Prochordates
  • Paleontology
DEF

Spiral band of crescentic growth lines, associated with marginal slit or foramen in certain univalves (Pleurotomariine, Bellerophontid, etc.).

CONT

Gastropods are radulate organisms with a torted body(e. g., the body is rotated 180° so that the anus is above the head. Gastropods typically have a helical coiled univalved shell whose opening(aperture) may be closed by an operculum. Another feature which is useful in discriminating among groups is the structure called the selenizone which can be expressed as either a series of holes as in Haliotis, or as a groove along the periphery which is often seen as a sharp bend in the growth lines of the shell.

CONT

Emarginula (s.s.) horrida n. sp. [...] Emarginula ciplyensis Meyer, 1987.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Joining Elements (Mechanical Components)
CONT

"screw threads" : Continuous helical ribs on a cylindrical shank.... If a single helical groove is cut or formed on a cylinder, it is called a single-thread screw. Should the helix angle be increased sufficiently for a second thread to be cut between the grooves of the first thread, a double thread will be formed on the screw. Double, triple, and even quadruple threads are used whenever a rapid advance is desired, as on fountain pens and valves. The helices on a double thread start 180 ° apart, while those on a triple begin 120 ° apart.
