Elementary particles can be described in terms of a few simple properties. The most obvious of these are the mass and electric charge of the particle.... There is a... property which all particles carry, quantum mechanical spin. The name spin comes from an analogy with classical electro-magnetics. In classical electromagnetic theory, it is well known that a charged particle that is moving through a magnetic field will be deflected. If the particle... is spinning about some axis the deflection will be changed; i. e. the particle will go in a different direction than if it wasn’t spinning. The effect will depend on both the rate of spin and the rotation axis. In quantum mechanics, a similar effect is observed with any quantum particle. When passed through magnetic fields, they behave as if they are spinning electric charges. What's more, they behave as if their rates of spin are integral 0, 1, 2,... or half-integral(1/2, 3/2,...) of a base unit... much like charges come in basic multiples of the electron's charge. The concept of spin here is a bit more abstract than in the classical case. With a classical particle you can paint a littledot on the particle... and directly measure the rotation rate by counting the number of times you see the spot in a minute. This is not possible for quantum particles. They are not littlespinning balls in that sense. 1, record 1, English, - quantum%20mechanical%20spin

(cross-country skiing) Night skiing on lighted tracks is gaining here in North America... Try to get a group together to build your own little loop. String up some carnival lights, use street lights, automobile headlights, bonfires, torches, or anything that will provide some illumination. Or, once or twice a year, when there is a littlepowder snow on top of a good base, and the moon is full, go out night skiing. 1, record 2, English, - night%20skiing

Breaking takes between 4 and 6 weeks, though longer may be required if horses have had little handling. All horses here basically go through the same breaking program, regardless of their final intended use. Your horse is tied up to the tie-up-poles, where there is minimal risk of injury if he pulls back. In the round-pen, he will be hobbled, bridled, and saddled. He will be lunged with a saddle on, carrying the bit but no reins. Next, he will de driven(long reined). This starts to develop steering on the horse, stopping and backing up. Then he will be ridden in the round-pen until he is balanced with a rider, can steer, stop and back up. Then it is outside to do the same. 1, record 3, English, - breaking
