HIDDEN COST [3 records]

Record 1 2003-04-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Underground Planning (Urban Studies)
OBS

Chow, Fiona, 2002, "Hidden aspects of urban planning, surface and underground development", Prepared as part of the European COST C7 Initiative with input from the RTPI, Thomas Telford Ltd.

OBS

In the special field of underground works and alongside traditional projects such as tunnels, underground power stations and various pilot tunnels, CFE has been involved in the development of underground town planning. For instance, it is enviably placed as one of the most highly skilled metro builders.

OBS

urbanist: A specialist in or advocate of town-planning.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Aménagement souterrain (Urbanisme)
CONT

Record 2 2002-11-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Drilling
  • Boring and Drilling (Mines)
CONT

To coincide with a change in ecological attitude, the oil industry has been able to develop new techniques when it comes to tapping hidden oil reserves. It is no longer necessary for an oil well to be designed around a vertical shaft. By means of multidirectional drilling many fields can be accessed from outside locations and pumped back to a main station. While new procedures cost more money, they can greatly reduce environmental impact.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Forage des puits de pétrole
  • Sondage et forage miniers
OBS

Record 3 1994-07-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Simulation (Cybernetic Systems)
CONT

The reconstruction cost is the number of bits required to describe the misfit between the raw input and the best approximation to it that could be reconstructed from the activities of the hidden units. The reconstruction cost is proportional to the squared difference between the raw input and its reconstruction.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Simulation (Systèmes cybernétiques)
CONT
