People everywhere tend to attribute hidden essences to human social categories, such as race, ethnicity, and personality. For the most part, they are used to generate notions of "in-group" versus "out-group" based on readily identifiable characteristics, whether physical features(skin color, place of residence, dress) or social and ideational attributes(language, nationality, religion). Put simply, a solar eclipse is a shadow play between three actors : the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth. Illuminated by the Sun, the Moon casts a shadow out into space : a long, thin cone, stretching about 374, 000 km out into space, called the umbra. Anyone inside that umbral cone will see the Sun completely blocked out by the Moon. Surrounding the umbra, there is a zone where the Sun is only partly hidden : this is known as the penumbra. Extending out from the tip of the umbral cone is a part of the penumbra known as the antumbra, which comes into play during annular eclipses. 2, record 2, English, - antumbra

1, record 2, French, - anti%2Dombre

Crazy Ivan is a U.S. Navy term for a Soviet submarine manoeuvre, characterized by any number of sudden and sharp turns, used by submarine crews to "look behind" them. Because of the acoustic distortions and noise caused by propeller blades, it is nearly possible for conventional sonars to detect objects directly behind a submarine. Thus, with sudden turns, the area where the sonar is not effective shifts relative to the current heading of the submarine, causing previous gaps in sonar coverage to be revealed while masking known areas. 1, record 6, English, - crazy%20Ivan
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The "crazy" part of the name comes from the fact that these manoeuvre were very sudden and "Ivan" was a common nickname used to refer to the Russians. A standard tactic of pursuing submarines would be to closely follow the Soviet submarine hidden right in the sonar gap, causing the U. S. submarine to go undetected. 1, record 6, English, - crazy%20Ivan

There is... an international standard called "High Sierra" format, or ISO 9660, for the storage of plain data on CD-ROMs, but there are unfortunately two standards for the compressed data. One standard is called CD-I(Compact Disk-Interactive) and is supported by Philips and Sony, whereas the other standard is called DVI(Digital Video Interactive) and is supported by Intel and IBM. Both standards are similar in allowing slightly more than one hour of video on a CD-ROM, but they are otherwise quite different. CD-I is designed as a stand-alone system that is intended to be sold as a consumer electronics appliance for the home. A CD-I machine is self-contained with its own computer hidden inside. Users do not see the computer, however, but only the nice video images on their television screens, so CD-I may appeal to the "compuphobic" part of the population. CD-I does come in a computer-oriented format also, called CD-XA(Extended Architecture). 1, record 13, English, - Compact%20Disk%20Read%2DOnly%20Memory%20Extended%20Architecture

Hidden inside the pipe foot is a metal reed, usually made of brass.
