Subject field(s)

DEF

A hollow, rounded or subrounded body, which has a lining of mineral crystals pointing inward...

CONT

A geode is a rock whose crystal-filled interior can be hollow or filled. The crystals that form within the mineral crust of the geode is called cruze. From the outside, geodes look like rounded, but otherwise ordinary rocks.

OBS

Distinguished from vugs which are residual or solution cavities in veins or rocks, and may be crystal-lined.

OBS

Unlike a "druse," a geode is separable (by weathering) as a discrete nodule or concretion from the rock in which it occurs and its inner crystals are not of the same minerals as those of the enclosing rock. A geode tends to be slightly flattened with its equatorial plane parallel to the bedding.

Short, hollow cylinder or tube for insertion into a canal, vessel, passageway, body cavity, or duct.

OBS

Cannulae usually consist of a small-length rigid or semirigid plastic or metal tube, a handle, and a valve. The valve regulates the pressure within the cavity. Most cannulae are fitted with a trocar or stylet during insertion. After insertion, the trocar is withdrawn, providing a rigid or semirigid structure that can be connected to an external tube, catheter, or connector for the injection or withdrawal of substances. Cannulae may also provide a port through which diagnostic or surgical instruments are passed to gain access to and operate on internal structures. They can be used in a great variety of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Plug valves are valves with [spherical, ] cylindrical or conically-tapered "plugs" which can be rotated inside the valve body to control flow through the valve. A typical micronic type filter... utilizes an element made of specially treated paper which is formed in vertical convolutions(wrinkles). An internal spring holds the elements in shape. The micronic element is designed to prevent the passage of solids greater than 10 microns(0. 000394 inch) in size. In the event that the filter element becomes clogged, the spring loaded relief valve in the filter head will bypass the fluid after a differential pressure of 50 p. s. i. has been built up. Hydraulic fluid enters the filter through the inlet port in the filter body and flows around the element inside the bowl. Filtering takes place as the fluid passes through the element into the hollow core, leaving the foreign material on the outside of the element.

OBS

The eight exta meridians have no reciprocal connections between the solid and hollow organs, or the interior and surface of the body. Their function is supposed to be like that of a lake, regulating the excess or deficiency of water in the rivers-the main meridians. Six of the eight extra meridians have no acupuncture points of their own. They use the acupuncture points of the twelve main meridians. They do not have a circulation of energy. The exceptions are the Governing Vessel and Conception Vessel, which not only have their own acupuncture points but have their own circulation of energy.

These extra meridians are also known as "Odd Meridians", "Irregular Vessels", "Curious Meridians" or even as "Marvelous Vessels" when the treatment with it produced marvelous results in chronic diseases while acupuncture treatment on 12 Main Meridians failed.
