Cup-stacked carbon nanotubes (CSCNTs) differ from other quasi-1D carbon structures, which normally behave as quasi-metallic conductors of electrons. CSCNTs exhibit semiconducting behaviors due to the stacking microstructure of graphene layers. 3, record 2, English, - cup%2Dstacked%20carbon%20nanofiber
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 CONT
While carbon nanotubes(CNT) and carbon nanofibers(CNF) are both hollow, nanometer in scale, and produced in a similar manner, there are distinct differences which significantly impact their performance and ability to be processed. The primary differences between the materials are morphology, size, ease of processing, and price. Carbon nanofibers, also known as Stacked-Cup Carbon Nanotubes(SCCNT), have a unique morphology in that graphene planes are canted from the fiber axis, resulting in exposed edge planes on the interior and exterior surfaces of the fiber. CNTs, on the other hand, typically resemble an assembly of concentric cylinders of graphene. To illustrate the difference in morphology, Figure 1... shows a side by side comparison of A) multi-walled carbon nanotubes [MWCNT] and B) stacked-cup carbon nanotubes.... Figure 1. A) Multi-wall CNTs are composed of concentric cylinders of graphene where the basal planes form an inert surface. B) The stacked-cup structure of CNF has exposed graphitic edge planes along its length, providing opportunities for chemical modification of the surface for covalent bonding directly with the matrix. 7, record 2, English, - cup%2Dstacked%20carbon%20nanofiber

Since the enzyme molecule entrapped is not chemically modified, its kinetic behavior in the hollow fiber enzyme reactor could be expected to be the same as that of the free enzyme. However, with hollow fiber reactors in the first category the permeation of substrate into the membrane is often the rate-determining step.... Thus, the apparent Michaelis constant Km(app) is often larger than the Km of the free enzyme. For example, a bacterial alkaline phosphatase entrapped in the outside region of a cellulose hollow fiber had a Km(app) l 700 times larger than the Km of the free enzyme. 3, record 3, English, - hollow%20fiber
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
In the first hollow fiber enzyme reactor... the enzyme solution was placed inside a fiber bundle, which was then temporarily sealed. The substrate solution was introduced to the container outside the hollow fibers. Substrate molecules passed through the fibers to be converted by the enzyme on the inside. Products diffused out. 2, record 3, English, - hollow%20fiber

With hollow fiber reactors... the permeation of substrate into the membrane is often the rate-determining step. Therefore, the reaction rate does not reach a maximum in the same concentration range as for free enzyme, because the actual substrate concentration in the chamber of enzyme solution is always lower than the bulk substrate concentration as a result of the enzyme reaction. Thus the apparent Michaelis constant Km(app) is often larger than the Km of the free enzyme.
