3, record 3, French, - potlatch

Counting coup was a relatively harmless act of bravery and war honor of the highest grade. Any blow struck against the enemy counted as a coup, but the most prestigious acts included touching an enemy warrior, with the hand or with a coup stick. The term is of French origin from the noun coup(pronounced/ku/) which means a hit, a blow or a strike. The expression can be seen as referring to "counting strikes". Coups were recorded by notches in the coup stick, or by feathers in the headdress of a warrior who was rewarded with them for an act of bravery. 1, record 21, English, - coup%20stick

1, record 21, French, - b%C3%A2ton%20%C3%A0%20coup

Saint Joseph's Day, commonly called the Feast of St. Joseph or in some churches, the Solemnity of Saint Joseph is marked in some Christian churches in honor of Saint Joseph, spouse of Mary and foster-father of Jesus. It is a Solemnity in the Roman Catholic Church, and a feast or festival in the Lutheran Church, and a feast in the provinces of the Anglican Communion, falling on 19 March. In the Orthodox Church, the Feast falls on the Sunday after Christmas. Saint Bernardino of Siena was the main proponent of Joseph's veneration in the western Church, where his feast day was first celebrated in 1621. In 1870, Pope Pius IX declared Joseph the patron of the Universal Church, and promoted the "Patronage" feast(later Solemnity, before the Vatican II calendar's use of such term) of Saint Joseph on the third Wednesday after Easter; this was replaced in 1955 by the feast of St. Joseph the Worker. As Joseph was a carpenter(or a builder), he is also the patron saint of workers. 1, record 29, English, - Saint%20Joseph%27s%20Day

1, record 31, Spanish, - Sanfermines

Named in honor of René Descartes("I think therefore I am"), Cartesian coordinates use an arbitrary grid with an origin(0, 0) in the lower left, and increasing X and Y axes. The X axis runs horizontally, the Y axis vertically, and the locations within the plane are described using(X, Y) pairs. The X value describes the horizontal location of the point, and the Y value describes the vertical location. Cartesian coordinates are sometimes called plane coordinates because they describe point locations in a plan. See also Projection. 2, record 37, English, - cartesian%20coordinates

Les coordonnées cartésiennes sont parfois dites coordonnées planes parce qu'elles permettent d'indiquer la position de points dans un plan. a time period of 7, 980 Julian years used, chiefly by astronomers, for counting back over long periods of time to determine how many days separate any two events. Each day in the Julian period is consecutively numbered from the beginning of the period(Jan. 1, 4713 B-C.), so that the number of days between two events can be calculated simply by subtracting the Julian number of the first event from that of the second event. The period of 7, 980 years was chosen because it is the product of the numbers of years in the solar cycle(28), lunar cycle(19), and the Roman cycle of indiction(15). The Julian period was proposed by Joseph Justus Scaliger in 1582 and named in honor of his father. 2, record 56, English, - Julian%20period
