In December 1995, the House of Commons officially recognized February as Black History Month in Canada following a motion introduced by [the Honourable Jean] Augustine. The House of Commons carried the motion unanimously. In February 2008, Senator Donald Oliver, the first Black man appointed to the Senate, introduced the motion to recognize contributions of Black Canadians and February as Black History Month. It received unanimous approval and was adopted on March 4, 2008. The adoption of this motion completed Canada's parliamentary position on Black History Month.

Dragon fever is what happens every June when Dragon Boat racing teams from all over the world compete on the waters of False Creek to celebrate an event that is rooted in Chinese tradition since the 4th century BC. Since it began in Vancouver in 1986, the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival has become an annual event, with nearly 100 local teams, 2,500 paddlers and over 100,000 spectators.

The Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival or Alcan Dragon Boat Festival takes place every June at False Creek in Vancouver. It is the largest and oldest Dragon Boat Festival outside of Asia. It was founded in 1986 by Honourable David See-Chai Lam and Milton Wong at the 1986 Vancouver World's Fair(Expo 86). It was first produced as a demonstration sport, being the first dragon boat race/festival outside Asia. It has grown in leaps and bounds and is not only recognized as North America's biggest and best, but also as the festival which kick started many other dragon boat festivals in the western world. The Festival was created as a showcase of Vancouver's growing cultural diversity and to promote racial harmony and cross cultural understanding to all Canadians-both new and old.

Quebec City, August 14 1998-The Honourable Andy Mitchell, Secretary of State(Parks), today announced the unveiling of a plaque from the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, commemorating the national historical significance of the Siege of Quebec City in 1775-1776. "Quebec City is a precious witness to the military history of Canada, "said Mr. Mitchell. "I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to a reenactment of battles on the Plains of Abraham this weekend as part of the event Taking the Capital by Storm. "This plaque recalls the victory against the American troops assaulting Quebec City in 1775, during the American Revolution. The displays of force of the Canadian and British detachments prevented the American invaders from taking the colony. The unveiling of a plaque commemorating the Siege of Quebec City in 1775-1776 follows recommendations made by the Board.

The Institute began life in 1958 when a group of prominent business and labour leaders organized the Private Planning Association of Canada to research and promote educational activities on issues related to public economic and social policy. The PPAC renamed itself the C. D. Howe Research Institute in 1973 following a merger with the C. D. Howe Memorial Foundation, an organization created in 1961 to memorialize the Right Honourable Clarence Decatur Howe. In 1981, the Institute adopted its current name after the Memorial Foundation again became a separate entity in order to focus its work more directly on memorializing C. D. Howe. The C. D. Howe Institute will celebrate its 50th Anniversary as the gold standard for public-policy research in 2008.

The north walk of Lincoln's Inns Fields was renamed Canada Walk, 30 October 1945. The site was rededicated by the Prime Minister of Canada, the Rt. Honourable Jean Chrétien and the Mayor of Camden, Alderman Ray Adamson, 14 May 1998. In a building opposite at 20 Lincoln's Inn Fields was the Headquarters of the Royal Canadian Air Force in Great Britain during the Second World War. This HQ provided central support to some 85, 000 Canadian personnel who served in 48 RCAF Squadrons and with numerous RAF units. In all 14, 455 Canadian airmen made the supreme sacrifice while serving overseas.
