The RMSSD is the root mean square of successive differences between normal heartbeats. This value is obtained by first calculating each successive time difference between heartbeats in milliseconds. Each of the values is then squared and the result is averaged before the square root of the total is obtained. The RMSSD reflects the beat-to-beat variance in HR [heart rate] and is the primary time domain measure used to estimate the vagally mediated changes reflected in HRV [heart rate variability].

The SPOT satellites each have twin high resolution visible(HRV) imaging systems, which can be operated independently and simultaneously. Each HRV is capable of sensing either in a high spatial resolution single-channel panchromatic(PLA) mode, or a coarser spatial resolution three-channel multispectral(MLA) mode. Each along-track scanning HRV sensor consists of four linear arrays of detectors : one 6000 element array for the panchromatic mode recording at a spatial resolution of 10 m, and one 3000 element array for each of the three multispectral bands, recording at 20 m spatial resolution. The swath width for both modes is 60 km at nadir.

Chaque balayeur à barrettes est composé de quatre rangs linéaires de détecteurs : un de 6 000 éléments pour l'enregistrement en mode panchromatique, et un de 3 000 éléments pour chacune des trois bandes multispectrales. La fauchée pour les deux modes est de 60 km à partir du nadir.

[The] push-broom scanner [is a] type of imaging system... commonly used in optical remote sensing satellites such as SPOT. The imaging system has a linear detector array(usually of the CCD type) consisting of a number of detector elements(6000 elements in SPOT HRV). Each detector element projects an "instantaneous field of view(IFOV) "on the ground. The signal recorded by a detector element is proportional to the total radiation collected within its IFOV. At any instant, a row of pixels are formed. As the detector array flies along its track, the row of pixels sweeps along to generate a two-dimensional image.

La mission d'observation est réalisée par un instrument à barrette CCD [charged-coupled device] de type «push-broom» avec une visée au nadir : sous l'effet du défilement du satellite sur son orbite, une barrette de détecteurs carrés disposés en ligne acquiert successivement les différentes lignes permettant de reconstituer une image. La taille de chaque détecteur élémentaire et la période d'échantillonnage sont ajustées de telle manière qu'en une période d'échantillonnage le point subsatellite se déplace de la projection au sol d'un détecteur au nadir.

Each HRV [High Resolution Visible] contains a pointable mirror apparatus which allows the imaging direction to be varied at user-selected angles. Each HRV imager has two sensing modes. They are known as the Multi-Linear Array(MLA) and the Panchromatic Linear Array(PLA) sensors. The MLA sensor captures data in three spectral bands : 500-590 nm, nominal ground resolution of 20 metres at nadir. The PLA sensor captures data in the spectral range 510-730 nm at a 10 metre nominal ground resolution at nadir.
