Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The shaft [of a foil bearing] is supported by a compliant, spring loaded foil journal lining. Once the shaft is spinning fast enough, the working fluid (usually air), lifts the foil from the shaft so that there is no contact. The shaft and foil are separated by the viscous properties of the working fluid. A high speed of the shaft with respect to the foil is required to initiate the air gap. 1, record 2, English, - foil%20bearing

In a fluid dynamic bearing(FDB), a thin layer of oil or other lubricant is injected between the shaft and sleeve. The structure of the bearing features a rotating shaft, which generates a hydrodynamic force, causing the shaft to rotate. The non-contact construction of this bearing makes it particularly suited for improving rotational accuracy and enhancing quietness and robustness. 4, record 3, English, - fluid%20dynamic%20bearing

The hard-disk drive is a wonder of modern technology, consisting of a stack of disk platters, each one an aluminum alloy or glass substrate coated with a magnetic material and protective layers. Read-write heads, typically located on both sides of each platter, record and retrieve data from circumferential tracks on the magnetic medium. Servomechanical actuator arms position the heads precisely above the tracks, and a hydrodynamic air bearing is used to "fly" the heads above the surface at heights measured in fractions of microinches. 1, record 6, English, - servomechanical%20actuator%20arm

1, record 6, French, - bras%20m%C3%A9canique%20pilot%C3%A9%20par%20des%20moteurs
