A hydroelectric power plant that uses water flow as it comes in the river, with little or no storage to allow for modifications in demand of water flow. 8, record 1, English, - run%2Dof%2Dthe%2Driver%20hydroelectric%20plant
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Run-of-river power stations use the natural flow of river water to drive turbines. Although the head of water between the upstream and downstream sides is modest compared to storage power stations, the volume of water available is usually greater. Run-of-river power stations operate continuously. They meet basic electricity needs by supplying the steady underlying demand. The amount of electricity produced depends on the river’s flow; they are generally more productive in summer than in winter. 9, record 1, English, - run%2Dof%2Dthe%2Driver%20hydroelectric%20plant
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Between 1998 and 1999, a unique and innovative hydroelectric project was implemented through a partnership with a First Nations community. A run-of-the river hydroelectric plant, which uses the natural course of the river rather than requiring the construction of dams, was installed in the community of Deer Lake. 1, record 1, English, - run%2Dof%2Dthe%2Driver%20hydroelectric%20plant

8, record 1, French, - centrale%20au%20fil%20de%20l%27eau
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
9, record 1, French, - centrale%20au%20fil%20de%20l%27eau

Energy derived ultimately from the sun. 2, record 2, English, - solar%20energy
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Most energy sources on Earth are forms of indirect solar energy, although we usually don’t think of them in that way. Coal, oil and natural gas derive from ancient biological material which took its energy from the sun(via plant photosynthesis) millions of years ago. All the energy in wood and foodstuffs also comes from the sun. Movement of the wind(which causes waves at sea), and the evaporation of water to form rainfall which accumulates in rivers and lakes, are also powered by the sun. Therefore, hydroelectric power and wind and wave power are forms of indirect solar energy. Direct solar energy is what we usually mean when we speak of solar power-it is the use of sunlight for heating or generating electricity. 2, record 2, English, - solar%20energy
