HYDROELECTRICITY [4 records]

Record 1 2022-09-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electrochemistry
  • Gas Industry
  • Anti-pollution Measures
DEF

Hydrogen produced via the electrolysis of water in which the electricity used in the process is derived from renewable sources.

CONT

There are different techniques for producing hydrogen. Depending on the process, the hydrogen obtained may be labelled as black, grey, blue, green, etc.... Currently, 95% of the hydrogen consumed worldwide is produced from natural gas or coal.... Green hydrogen can be produced by "water electrolysis, "whereby an electric current is passed through water to break down its molecules... and extract hydrogen. In addition, if the current comes from a renewable energy source(hydroelectricity, wind or solar power), all elements of the generation cycle are low-carbon.

  • Mesures antipollution
CONT

Record 2 1999-04-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Calorimetry
  • Econometrics
DEF

A common unit employed to enable oil, gas, nuclear and hydroelectricity, hard coal, brown coal and other forms of energy to be directly compared from the point of view of their fuel value; conversion of fuels to their coal equivalents depends mainly, but not necessarily exclusively, on their calorific value.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Calorimétrie
  • Économétrie
DEF

CONT

... there is a relatively large quantity of hydroelectricity produced and consumed in Canada that, when converted to a thermal-energy equivalent-as is done in comparisons of primary energy-implies huge amounts of fictitious heat losses.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Ecology (General)
CONT

Soft technology... turns out to mean primarily solar heating and cooling, wind and hydroelectricity, and fuels from renewable biological materials.

CONT

... the United States could now abandon centralized energy sources and turn instead to "soft" technologies ...

French

Domaine(s)
  • Écologie (Généralités)
DEF
