DEF

the result : an explosion vastly smaller than, but otherwise not unlike, that of a hydrogen bomb, which releases energy in much the same way as energy is produced at the core of the sun and other stars. This is laser fusion.

CONT

[A] thermonuclear bomb, also called hydrogen bomb, or H-bomb, [is a] weapon whose enormous explosive power results from an uncontrolled self-sustaining chain reaction in which isotopes of hydrogen combine under extremely high temperatures to form helium in a process known as nuclear fusion. The high temperatures that are required for the reaction are produced by the detonation of an atomic bomb. A thermonuclear bomb differs fundamentally from an atomic bomb in that it utilizes the energy released when two light atomic nuclei combine, or fuse, to form a heavier nucleus.

CONT

CONT

Yousef's bomb was a devilish mixture of nitro-glycerine, urea pellets, sulphuric acid, aluminium azide, magnesium azide and bottled hydrogen.

CONT

The reaction of aluminum triethyl with chlorine azide at 0° leads to the thus far unknown trimeric diethyl aluminium azide [(C2H5)2AlN3]3. This compound is a colourless hygroscopic liquid (m. p. -130°) which can be distilled in vacuo without decomposition.

CONT

Most Americans probably think the Islamic terrorists declared war on the United States Sept. 11, 2001. For that matter most Americans have forgotten the 1993 Muslim terrorist bombing of the Towers(1, 200+ lb. bomb, made of urea pellets, nitroglycerin, sulfuric acid, aluminum azide, magnesium azide, and bottled hydrogen.)

OBS

The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) recommends the form "aluminium" rather than "aluminum."

  • Emergency Management
OBS

Constructed over a two year period when nuclear fear was at its zenith, the Central Emergency Government Headquarters began operation in 1961. Intended to be a secret relocation centre for government leaders, civil servants and military personnel in the event of a nuclear war, it quickly became the focus of media and public speculation.

OBS

The Central Emergency Government Headquarters was built at Carp near Ottawa with a transmitting station a few miles away. Essentially a hardened concrete box of four levels, surrounded by a gravel envelope and buried in sandy soil, the Central Headquarters(irrevently referred to as the Diefenbunker) was capable of withstanding a 5 megaton hydrogen bomb blast with a ground zero at 1. 1 miles.
