Since the 1950s, large amounts of sterols, mainly sitosterol, have been added to patients’ diets for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. Several investigations have shown that plant sterols can lower total and low-density-lipoprotein(LDL) cholesterol concentrations by 10% to 20% in people consuming diets rich in dietary cholesterol. 2, record 1, English, - sitosterol

Hyperlipidemia, abnormal elevation of plasma cholesterol and/or triglyceride levels, is one of the most common clinical problems that confront the physician in daily practice. Much attention has been focused on these disorders because there is a strong association of hyperlipidemia especially hypercholesterolemia with development of atherosclerosis, and of hypertriglyceridemia with pancreatitis. 1, record 2, English, - hyperlipidemia

1, record 2, French, - hyperlipid%C3%A9mie

Tuberous xanthomas are firm, painless, red-yellow nodules. The lesions can coalesce to form multilobated tumors. Tuberous xanthomas usually develop in pressure areas such as the extensor surfaces of the knees, elbows and buttocks. Tuberous xanthomas are particularly associated with hypercholesterolemia and increased levels of LDL. 1, record 3, English, - tuberous%20xanthoma
