The term ’hyperfine interaction’ denotes any interaction between nuclei and electrons. This interaction can be described by an effective field called hyperfine field. The total interaction can be separated in three different contributions : the Fermi contact term, the orbital and the dipolar term. 1, record 1, English, - hyperfine%20field

Hyperfine interactions and the decay of radioactive isotopes are studied by cooling nuclei to temperatures close to 10 mK. At such temperatures the nuclear spins can be polarised, resulting in a spatial anisotropy of the radioactive decay products which is characteristic of the strength of the ordering interaction and of the decay process. 2, record 2, English, - decay%20of%20radioactive%20isotopes
