HYPERFINE INTERACTION [3 records]

Record 1 2010-12-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atomic Physics
CONT

The term ’hyperfine interaction’ denotes any interaction between nuclei and electrons. This interaction can be described by an effective field called hyperfine field. The total interaction can be separated in three different contributions : the Fermi contact term, the orbital and the dipolar term.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique atomique
DEF

Champ efficace servant à décrire une interaction hyperfine.

OBS

Subject field(s)
  • Atomic Physics
  • Nuclear Physics
CONT

Hyperfine interactions and the decay of radioactive isotopes are studied by cooling nuclei to temperatures close to 10 mK. At such temperatures the nuclear spins can be polarised, resulting in a spatial anisotropy of the radioactive decay products which is characteristic of the strength of the ordering interaction and of the decay process.

CONT

OBS

[In Mössbauer spectroscopy], magnetic flux density at the nucleus(from experiment) in those cases in which the magnetic hyperfine interaction can be described by an effective field. In other cases the vector components of the magnetic hyperfine interaction should be reported if possible.

  • Chimie
DEF
