... the paramount consideration is the welfare of the patient, and given good faith on the part of the doctor. I think the exercise of his discretion in the area of advice must depend upon the patient's overall needs. To be taken into account should be the gravity of the condition to be treated, the importance of the benefits expected to flow from the treatment or procedure, the need to encourage him to accept it, the relative significance of its inherent risks, the intellectual and emotional capacity of the patient to accept the information without such distortion as to prevent any rational decision at all, and the extent to which the patient may seem to have placed himself in his doctor's hands with the invitation that the latter accept on his behalf the responsability for intricate or technical decisions. 1, record 2, English, - inherent%20risks

2, record 3, French, - distorsion%20radiale

Degree of output distortion when the applied input signal is undistorted. Note 1-By inherent distortion is meant the combination of the different types of distortion caused by the channel(bias, characteristic, etc.). Note 2-This notion may be extended to the constituent elements of a channel, such as telegraphy relay. Note 3-It will be necessary to specify in what conditions the channel is used(type of apparatus, modulation rate, manual or automatic keying, etc.) and to effect the modulation under these conditions. In particular the point of entry at which the distortionless modulation is applied and the terminal point where the distortion is measured should be defined. 1, record 5, English, - degree%20of%20inherent%20distortion

1, record 5, French, - degr%C3%A9%20de%20distorsion%20propre
