CONT

Coherent holography records the complex amplitude of a 3D object holographically, giving speckle noise upon reconstruction and presenting a serious drawback inherent in coherent optical systems.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Television (Radioelectricity)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
DEF

Small, random, white spots produced on a television or radar screen by inherent noise signals originating in the receiver.

CONT

... noise has its most deleterious effect on reception quality when it occurs in the input circuitry of the receiver, since this is usually where the basic signal-to-noise ratio is established. The generation of noise in this area is principally caused by thermal agitation in resistive input components. When the incoming signal is too weak to override this noise, a visual effect is displayed on the picture tube that is commonly referred to as snow. Although there are other types of noise that produce different visual effects, snow is the most common visual effect.

  • Photoelectricity and Electron Optics
CONT

Until recently, it was believed that this phenomenon might be inherent in the tube's fibre optic plate and tubes were often manufactured with specially selected plates that had exhibited lower levels of noise.

  • Photo-électricité et optique électronique
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • HVAC Distribution Systems
CONT

Myers is internationally recognized for vibrant, technically skillful theater designs ... Myers reduced noise in the hall by placing mechanical ducts under the floor rather than on the roof. Air is supplied from the ducts through grilles in the pedestal of each seat.

CONT

Complaints had been received on air quality around the Associate Vice President (Student Affairs) corner of Room 101, Administration Building. Air samples have been taken and molds were discovered in the mechanical ducts. Samples of the area have tested positive for molds and the leak in the ducts is being fixed.

OBS

"Whenever you do a renovation, there are always inherent difficulties, "says Haas. "One of the critical issues we had to deal with was the mechanical ductwork(for heating, air-conditioning and plumbing). It's absolutely essential that noise from these systems not enter the main hall. Well, of course the old ductwork in that building was pretty noisy. But we were able to replace all the ducts that run through the theater itself, which amounted to about 25 percent of the ductwork in the building. "

CONT

CONT

The inherent anti-aliasing characteristics of the floating-diffusion input are particularly beneficial in applications where it is desired to integrate all of the pre-CCD interface electronics onto the CCD monolith itself in a high density format. Noise band-limiting is achieved without the undesirable threshold voltage sensitivity characteristic of the true integrator or "direct injection" mode of charge injection.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
DEF

Radar in which a swept-frequency signal is transmitted, received from a target, and then compressed in time to give a final narrow pulse called the chirp signal. It has high immunity to jamming and an inherent rejection of random noise signals.

Key term(s)
  • frequency shift radar

French

Domaine(s)
  • Radar, radioguidage et radiogoniométrie
DEF
