1, record 5, French, - test%20d%27inhibition%20par%20%C3%A9couvillonnage%20r%C3%A9nal

Among the societal factors that influence rates of violence are those that create an acceptable climate for violence. … The silence and inhibition of those who know, and victim blaming attitudes, contribute to create a climate of tolerance that reduces inhibitions against violence, makes it more difficult for women to come forward, and promotes social passivity. … A public education effort is needed to break the silence, to reduce social tolerance, and to increase the level of social responsibility by promoting individual and collective action regarding domestic violence against women. … Zero tolerance campaigns, involving local organisations, community groups, academics, and a highly visible media campaign with the aim of challenging social attitudes towards violence against women by their intimate partners, are a good example of a public education effort to change the social climate of silence, tolerance and inhibition. 2, record 6, English, - social%20tolerance

The phenomenon of retrieval-induced forgetting has now been confirmed by a number of studies... [They] established that the inhibition of an item only occurs when there are two or more items competing for retrieval, and when a rival item has actually been retrieved... retrieval-induced forgetting is not merely some accidental event, but involves the active suppression of related but unwanted items to assist retrieval of the item actually required. 3, record 31, English, - retrieval%2Dinduced%20forgetting

Recollection is frequently social; people tend to remember with others and when they do, their joint recollection is enhanced... While one intuitively thinks that collaboration would enhance memory, [the authors] argued that recalling with others impairs retrieval of "unique items. "This collaborative inhibition(CI), occurs when pairs of subjects recall fewer correct "unique" items than others recall in isolation. This is a common result in many studies and has been attributed to both social and cognitive causes... 2, record 32, English, - collaborative%20inhibition

In reversible inhibition of enzymes... the inhibitor participates in a rapidly established, easily reversible equilibrium with the enzyme or enzyme-substrate complex, which can be analyzed in terms of the Michaelis-Menten formalism.... The three major types of reversible enzyme inhibition, competitive, uncompetitive, and noncompetitive, can be experimentally distinguished by the effects of the inhibitor on the reaction kinetics of the enzyme, which may be analyzed in terms of the basic Michaelis-Menten rate equation. Study of the rate at which a reaction proceeds and of the reaction mechanism, the intermediate steps constituting the overall reaction. The reaction rate is the rate of change of the concentrations of a reactant or product expressed in moles per liter per second (mol/1-sec.). It varies with temperature, and the presence (or absence) of catalyst, and the concentration of one or more products or other molecular species. When these conditions are fixed, it is equal to the rate constant for the reaction multiplied by the product of the concentration of the reactants, with each concentration raised to a specific power. 1, record 44, English, - kinetics

In 1913 a general theory of enzyme action and kinetics was developed by L. Michaelis and M. L. Menten, which was later extended by G. E. Briggs and J. B. S. Haldane. The rate of a heterogenous enzymic reaction is attenuated by the relative slowness of the substrate diffusion to the enzyme. By analogy to the well established chemical action of inhibitors, this phenomenon can be referred to as "diffusional inhibition". In the chemical engineering literature the effect of diffusional limitations on the catalyst activity is quantitatively expressed by the effectiveness factor, [eta], which measures the departure of V from Vkin and is defined by the following relationship : V=[eta] Vkin. Thus, the magnitude of diffusional inhibition is conveniently expressed by the reciprocal of the effectiveness factor, which is a complex function of the kinetic parameters, transport coefficient, and substrate concentration. 3, record 57, English, - effectiveness%20factor

1, record 58, French, - inhibition%20par%20exc%C3%A8s%20de%20substrat

In competitive inhibition, the binding of inhibitor and substrate to the enzyme is mutually exclusive.... With some proteins, especially regulatory proteins, competitive inhibition can result from the inhibitor binding at another location on the enzyme, thereby altering the configuration at the active site so that substrate cannot bind. Such an enzyme may be thought of as having two different configurations, one that permits binding of substrate. Binding is mutually exclusive and therefore competitive, as in simpler situations where the substrate and inhibitor are competing for binding to the same site. In these more complex examples of competitive inhibition the structure of the inhibitor usually does not resemble that of the substrate. 3, record 59, English, - competitive%20inhibition

3, record 72, French, - autotoxicit%C3%A9

Hogmanay is the Scots word for the last day of the year and is synonymous with the celebration of the New Year in the Scottish manner. Its official date is the 31 December. However this is normally only the start of a celebration which lasts through the night until the morning of the 1 January or, in many cases, 2 January. The roots of Hogmanay reach back to the pagan celebration of the winter solstice. In Europe, this evolved into the ancient celebration of Saturnalia, a great Roman winter festival, where people celebrated completely free of restraint and inhibition. The Vikings celebrated Yule, which later became the Twelve Days of Christmas, or the "Daft Days" as they were sometimes called in Scotland. The winter festival went underground with the Protestant Reformation and ensuing years, but re-emerged near the end of the 17th century. 1, record 73, English, - Hogmanay

This curve, characteristic of the lateral interactions between certain neurons in the cortex, is referred to as the Mexican-hat function. When Namoi vetch was fed to pigs, the first feed was consumed without problems, the next feed-intake was always depressed. Nitric oxide, derived from the guanine group of arginine, is known to play an important role in the control of blood pressure in rats via the relaxation of aortic rings but is also acts to control peristalsis. We have therefore hypothesised, that the delayed feed in take-inhibition is due to the inhibition of nitric oxide mediated peristalsis by canavanine acting as an arginine look-alike. Support for this hypothesis, can be inferred from a report by Thomas and Rosentahl(1987) of constipation in rats fed canavanine. 1, record 97, English, - delayed%20feed

The protein kinase PKR is a component of the interferon-induced anti-viral defense mechanism in mammalian cells. Upon activation by binding double-stranded RNA in infected cells, the kinase down-regulates the cellular translational apparatus, and thus impairs viral protein expression. To overcome the inhibitory effects of PKR, viruses have developed efficient methods to prevent the activation or function of the kinase. A potential site of therapeutic intervention is to block viral inhibition of PKR. 2, record 100, English, - protein%20kinase%20PKR

1, record 100, French, - prot%C3%A9ine%20kinase%20PKR
