In the matter of street sprinkling, the city and the company fought a long court battle over who should pay for the water used to lay the dust in the streets. Nor was this an inconsiderable matter, as dust was the smog of [the 19th century. ] 2, record 1, English, - street%20sprinkling

2, record 1, French, - arrosage%20des%20rues

The easiest way to lay out a sand volleyball court is on the beach, but not everyone has this luxury.... Beach volleyball is an Olympic sport, and sand courts meet Olympic specifications for dimension, depth and net height. The court should be 59 feet, or 18 m, long. It should be 29 1/2 feet, or 9 m, wide, which is half the distance of its length. 2, record 3, English, - beach%20volleyball%20court

The term "lay member" has been in use for a long time to describe tribunal members without a legal qualification, or sometimes those without a medical or other easily definable professional qualification. Even if the term is now normally absent from the legislation governing tribunal systems; it is still in common use colloquially among tribunal members, and often forms part of the language of recruitment procedure. 2, record 4, English, - lay%20member

Non-legal members are not on tribunals just to make up the members, or to provide some balance or untutored "common sense;" nor should they feel they are representing the "person in the street" (which is the role suggested by the term lay-member). 2, record 4, English, - lay%20member

The first step of this program involved showing a modern day horse foot containing two long bones which come to a point and lay flat against the bigger bone... In this case, these two bones were said to be all that is left of what used to be two additional digits or toes. Today, the horse has only one digit; its hoof. The ranger went on to explain that the further one goes back in time the more digits the horse had, in fact, at one time a creature with 3 toes in back and 4 toes in front existed. 3, record 5, English, - digit
