Aluminium barrier foils are available in a wide range of specifications and can be manufactured to suit individual requirements. They derive their protective properties from a strong construction. They [are comprised] of 2, 3 or 4 layers of different materials, bonded together with adhesive or extrusion polyethylene.... The middle layer is aluminium, which acts as a barrier to prevent water vapour, oxygen and aggressive gasses from entering the pack. This [construction] is the key to the aluminium barrier foil' s performance in preventing [the] deterioration of products. 5, record 1, English, - aluminum%20barrier%20film

According to... the "Standard Proctor test"... a sample of soil is dried, pulverized and separated into two fractions by a no. 4 sieve. About 6 lb of the finer fraction are moistened with a small quantity of water and thoroughly mixed to produce a damp aggregate that is then packed, in three equal layers, into a cylindrical container of specified dimensions. Each layer is compacted by 25 blows of a standard tamper that is allowed to fall from a height of 1 ft. When the cylinder has been filled and struck off level at the top, the weight and the water content of the damp soil of the container are determined. By means of these quantities, the dry density can be computed. In a similar manner the dry density is determined for successively damper mixtures of the aggregate, until the dry density after compaction decreases conspicuously with increasing water content. A curve is plotted showing the relation between dry density and water content. 3, record 2, English, - standard%20Proctor%2Dtest

Climax Avalanche. ... The distinguishing characteristic of this type of avalanche is that it contains a large proportion of old snow and is caused by conditions that have developed over a period of time--at least one month and possibly an entire season. They occur infrequently because they require an unusual combination of favorable factors. Whenever they occur, the penetration of a climax fracture is always in great depth, usually to the ground. They travel farther and spread out wider than ordinary avalanches on the same slide path. On heavy snow years these avalanches may travel farther than the normal slide path, and destroy forests and structures. 3, record 6, English, - climax%20avalanche

Record number: 8, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The main principles of wind-driven ocean circulation are as follows. 1. Wind stress causes transport of water in a thin Ekman surface layer. 2. If there is a curl to the wind stress, the Ekman layer transport will converge or diverge, causing downwelling or upwelling. 3. The downwelling or upwelling motions cause fluid columns to squash or stretch vertically, and this causes slow southward or northward flow due to conservation of potential vorticity. 4. The southward or northward flow is determined by the Sverdrup relationship, which links the N-S transport of water with the curl of the wind stress. In order to conserve mass, the water returns to its original position via a relatively thin boundary layer adjacent to the western edge of the basin. 3, record 8, English, - wind%2Ddriven%20oceanic%20circulation

Readying the electrotype shell. The metal layer deposited on the mould is called a shell and is 2/10 to 4/10 of a mm in thickness(8/1000 to 16/1000 of an inch)... The thickness is in function of the amount of time given to the process of electrolysis. Once the desired thickness is achieved the shell must be detached from the mould. This is not always an easy matter. If the mould is made of wax it can be removed with boiling water... Plastic moulds are removed by pulling them off, and lead moulds must be cut away along the edges. Shells are fragile and as they are not rigid they are sometimes damaged when being removed from the mould. In any case, shells must be backed to make them hard enough to print with. Backing is usually done by pouring a molten alloy made of lead(97%) and antimony(3%) onto the back of the shell. 2, record 18, English, - electrotype%20shell

Cloud classification. A system... based on the system proposed by Luke Howard, a London pharmacist, in 1803. Howard divided clouds into three fundamental forms : stratus(sheet or layer clouds), cumulus(heaped-up clouds), and cirrus(fibrous or tufty clouds). The form nimbus was also added to indicate a rain cloud, but is now used only in composite forms, e. g. cumulonimbus.... Clouds are also classified into the height-based categories of low(up to 2 km), medium(2 km to 6 km), and high(above 6 km), with examples in each category being, respectively, cirrus, altocumulus, and stratus. The official International Classification scheme assigns a number to nine types of clouds. These are(ranging from high to low altitude types) :(0) cirrus,(1) cirrocumulus,(2) cirrostratus,(3) altocumulus,(4) altostratus,(5) nimbostratus,(6) stratocumulus,(7) stratus,(8) cumulus,(9) cumulonimbus. 3, record 19, English, - cloud%20classification

The Beer law is also written I = I010ecx where "e" is known as the molar extinction coefficient. Not all solutions obey the Beer law. 1, record 22, English, - Beer%20law

2, record 22, French, - loi%20de%20Beer

3, record 22, French, - loi%20de%20Beer

During rapid filtration, the water passes through the filtering layer at speeds of from 4 to 50 m/h... There is practically no biological action; at the most there is some nitrification in certain cases when the speed is limited, when the oxygen content is adequate and when the nitrifying bacteria find favourable nutritive conditions in the water. 1, record 23, English, - nitrifying%20bacterium
