The shawm is a double reed instrument with a conical bore and is the predecessor of the modern oboe.... In Europe the shawm was used extensively during the 14th to the 17th centuries, mainly for playing outdoors at ceremonial occasions.... The reed is not held between the lips as with the oboe but is set in a type of holder known as a pirouette. The lips are pressed against the flat face of the pirouette, allowing the reed to vibrate freely in the mouth. The Adult Learning, Literacy and Essential Skills Program(ALLESP) was implemented on April 1, 2006 to integrate the National Literacy Program(NLP), the Office of Learning Technologies(OLT) Program and the Learning Initiatives Program(LIP) into a single cohesive program. By integrating these three closely-related programs, Human Resources and Social Development Canada(HRSDC) has created a more coherent approach for the delivery of its adult learning and literacy activities. The ALLESP is a key part of the Government of Canada's future efforts to support adult learning, literacy and essential skills. This program is expected to result in enhanced focus, greater capacity and improved results measurement. The ALLESP seeks to promote lifelong learning by reducing non-financial barriers and facilitating the creation of opportunities for Canadians to get the skills they need by providing funding through calls for proposals. 1, record 57, English, - Adult%20Learning%2C%20Literacy%20and%20Essential%20Skills%20Program

1, record 57, French, - Programme%20d%27apprentissage%2C%20d%27alphab%C3%A9tisation%20et%20d%27acquisition%20des%20comp%C3%A9tences%20essentielles%20pour%20les%20adultes

The game of curling is played with circular curling stones made of granite. Very precise specifications govern the size and shape of the rocks. No curling stone shall be greater in weight than 44 pounds(19. 95 kilograms) or greater in circumference than 36 inches(91. 44 centimeters), which means a diameter of 11. 46 inches(29. 19 centimeters). The height of a stone shall not be less than 4. 5 inches(11. 4 centimeters). The part of the stone that is held during the delivery is called the handle. The striking edge is a band around the circumference where one rock contacts another. The bottom of the curling rock does not entirely contact the ice surface. In fact, the stone is ground like a shallow cup on the bottom so only the lip of the cup is actually in contact with the ice.
