LUBRICATING POINT [6 records]

Record 1 2015-04-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Black Products (Petroleum)
DEF

A crude oil characterized by a high API gravity, a high yield of low-octane gasoline, and a high yield of lubricating oil having a high pour point and a high viscosity index, as compared with naphthene-base oils.

OBS

Popularly, and according to an early classification system, a paraffin-base oil is a crude oil containing little or no asphalt and whose residue from distillation contains paraffin wax.

OBS

paraffinic crude: term standardized by ISO.

Key term(s)
  • paraffin base petroleum
  • paraffin base crude

French

Domaine(s)
  • Produits noirs (Pétrole)
DEF

OBS

pétrole brut paraffinique : terme normalisé par l'ISO.

  • Petrochemistry
  • Paints and Varnishes (Industries)
DEF

Temperature at which a fluid gives off sufficient vapor to cause it to ignite and to continue to burn in the presence of air when a small flame is applied under controlled conditions. [Definition standardized by ISO.]

CONT

flash point : The temperature at which a flash or flame is first observed when a small lighted flame is passed over a sample of a flammable substance in a cup. The flash point is an important test for fire and safety regulations. So also is the fire point, or temperature at which sustained burning first occurs. These tests are indicative of the lowest-boiling components in the oil and are applied to solvents, distillate fuels, lubricating oils, and many other petroleum products.

OBS

fire point: term standardized by ISO.

DEF
