The main defining characteristics of small-scale fishers are their individual capital commitments and levels of production, which are relatively small scale. Such people have often been referred to in the fisheries management and development literature as "artisanal" fishers, but in many cases that is not an accurate term. Hence, while it is often apropos for describing fishers who fabricate much of their own gear, it is inappropriate for describing the far larger number of fishers who use small motorized watercraft and fishing gear which is manufactured outside their local communities. 1, record 6, English, - small%2Dscale%20fisher

Tree climbing consists of ascending and moving around in the canopy of trees. Tree climbing is safe when done with the proper training and equipment. Use of a rope, helmet, and harness are the minimum requirements to ensure the safety of the climber. Other equipment can also be used depending on the experience and skill of the tree climber. Some tree climbers take special hammocks called "Treeboats" with them into the tree canopies where they can enjoy a picnic or nap, or spend the night. Tree climbing is an "on rope" activity that employs a mixture of techniques and gear derived from rock climbers, cave explorers, loggers and professional arborists. Modern tree climbing techniques are a derivative of these other activities.... The main techniques used are free climbing, self-belayed climbing with a doubled rope system, Single Rope Technique, lead climbing, and spiking up with climbing gaffs. 2, record 11, English, - tree%20climbing

Wheelbarrowing is a condition that arises when the nosewheel rather than the main gear is forced to support an abnormal share of the aircraft's weight. Touching down on the nosewheel, excessive braking, or friction between the wheels and runway caused by a side-skid may cause wheelbarrowing. Wheelbarrowing can damage a nosewheel or cause an aircraft to yaw uncontrollably off its intended course.. 2, record 33, English, - wheelbarrowing
Record number: 33, Textual support number: 1 OBS
During take-off, "wheelbarrowing" may occur at lower speeds than during landing due to the slipstream increasing the lifting effect of the horizontal stabilizer. The use of excessive forward elevator control pressure during take-off to hold the aircraft on the ground to speeds above normal take-off speed could, if a "yaw" force is introduced, result in serious wheelbarrowing. 3, record 33, English, - wheelbarrowing

3, record 33, French, - brouettage

The MLG [main landing gear] retracts inwards into the fuselage wheel well. Each MLG has two doors. The outboard door is rigidly attached at the strut. The inboard door operates by mechanical linkage to the strut and is held in up position by two uplock cylinders. This uplock is released when landing gear lever is placed in down position by hydraulic pressure, or by nitrogen pressure in emergency. The MLG is held, while airborne, in retracted position by hydraulic pressure in the actuator and by the inboard door mechanical uplock, if pressure drops. As the gear is extended, an internal lock in the actuator automatically locks it in fully extended positions. 4, record 38, English, - landing%20gear%20control%20lever

4, record 43, French, - roue%20de%20train%20d%27atterrissage%20principal

Improvised Sled... We have seen a few different methods of creating a rescue sled with just a few extra pieces of gear. The best method of rigging is A-frame style which requires less material to join the tips and offers more lateral rigidity, because of the triangular shape. Many alpine touring skis have holes in the tips, and sometimes in the tails. The main purpose of these holes is to facilitate easy conversion into a rescue sled. 2, record 50, English, - improvised%20rescue%20toboggan

The landing gear of the BE-10 aircraft is a fully retractable tricycle configuration, driven by a 28-volt motor located on the forward side of the main spar. The main gear actuators are driven from the motor gearbox through torque shafts. The nose-gear actuator is driven by a duplex chain from a sprocket on the motor gearbox. The input shaft to the nose-gear actuator drives a series of rotating gears inside the actuator. These gears rotate a screw into and out of a lubricated aluminum-bronze alloy nut. Dynamic tests are specifically concerned with landing gear performance and CEAT has four specialized machines for this purpose. The landing gear is attached to an adjustable ’load’ platform running in vertical guides. Landing impact is simulated by dropping this assembly at a controlled speed on to a rotating drum which provides the effect of movement over the ground. The largest of these four machines, developed and built at CEAT, permits dynamic tests to be carried out on the main landing gear of aircraft with a landing weight in excess of 120 tonnes. 1, record 61, English, - load%20platform

2, record 72, French, - code%20de%20r%C3%A9f%C3%A9rence%20d%27a%C3%A9rodrome

Even when the designer has settled the size and angle of the tail plane, the force which it will experience will be outside the control of the pilot, and although they may automatically compensate for such things as changes in pitching moment on the main planes, they cannot possibly deal with changes of weight such as are caused by the dropping of bombs, consumption of fuel, and changes in the disposition of passengers and cargo. For this reason the adjustable tail plane was introduced, this being operated by an actuating gear and controlled by a wheel or lever in the pilot's cockpit. This enabled the pilot to alter the angle of setting of the tail plane during flight and so cause downward or upward forces upon it at will, thus balancing the aeroplane under all conditions. 2, record 75, English, - adjustable%20tailplane

The system is based on a special landing gear called a jump strut, which works by giving the aircraft the proper attitude for take-off,.... First, the system extends the nose gear, raising the nose. A few milliseconds later, the main gear is activated(’jumps’) in its turn, increasing the distance between wheels and fuselage, while rotation continues. After a vertical leap of some 6ft, the aircraft slows and descends slightly because of the increased drag at the higher angle of attack. Finally, and virtually without a pause, the aircraft resumes its climb.... The jump strut is extended under pilot control by a nitrogen-charged actuator. Once fired, it is immediately vented to atmosphere to enable the gear to resume its normal shock-attenuating function should the take-off run have to be aborted. 1, record 86, English, - jump%20strut
