CONT

[There are four main methods of tobbaco] curing : Flue curing requires a closed building equipped with a system of ventilation and a source of heat. Air curing requires an open framework in which sticks of leaves(or whole plants) are hung, protected from wind and sun. Fire curing employs an enclosed barn similar to that used for flue curing. Small fires are built on the floor, and the leaves cure in a smoke-laden atmosphere. Sun curing is the drying of uncovered sticks or strings of leaf in the Sun.

Subject field(s)
  • Biochemistry
  • Plant Biology
CONT

Chlorophyll content is an essential biochemical parameter to track the main developmental stages and yield of cereals relevant for agriculture. In this perspective, several spectral chlorophyll indices have been developed to estimate chlorophyll content at both the leaf and canopy levels using remote sensing data and considering different crop types.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Grain Growing
CONT

(...) Although Thatcher never reached the prominence of Marquis, it retained its importance much longer than Marquis. Since 1939 Thatcher has been Canada's most important variety. In 1954, about 69% of the wheat area of Western Canada was planted to this variety. Thatcher has been replaced gradually by new varieties that are more resistant to stem rust and leaf rust. In spite of its lack of resistance to some of the new strains of rust, in 1959 it was still the main variety in Alberta and the second variety in Saskatchewan, and formed 48. 6% of the wheat area of Western Canada.

Domaine(s)

CONT
