Several methods have been proposed to remove space debris. Most of the proposed methods fall into two main categories, active and passive debris removal. Active space debris removal includes using a net, a robotic arm, or a built-in internal propulsion. The net method involves using a net to catch large and slow-moving debris. The robotic arm method has been proposed to capture failed or abandoned satellites in high orbits. The built-in internal propulsion method can be used to deorbit large satellites at high altitudes. At the end of the satellite's life, the internal propulsion system can fire and change the orbit to either descend rapidly into the Earth's atmosphere or into deep space. 1, record 2, English, - active%20space%20debris%20removal

1, record 2, French, - retrait%20actif%20des%20d%C3%A9bris%20spatiaux

Many spacecraft use small rockets called thrusters to move around in space. Thrusters can change the speed and direction of a spacecraft. They allow a spacecraft to steer in space, to jump to a higher orbit, or to fall back to Earth. 4, record 10, English, - thruster

The control rocket is a vernier or other rocket used to control the attitude of, or slightly change the speed of, a spacecraft. 5, record 10, English, - thruster
Record number: 10, Textual support number: 3 CONT
The propulsion subsystem featured sets of small thrusters and a main engine. The thrusters were used to perform Odyssey's attitude control and trajectory correction manoeuvres, while the main engine was used to place the spacecraft in orbit around Mars. The main engine, which used hydrazine propellant with nitrogen tetroxide as an oxidiser, produced a minimum thrust of 65. 3 kilograms of force. Each of the four thrusters used for attitude control produce a thrust of 0. 1 kilogram of force. Four 2. 3-kilogram-force thrusters were used for turning the spacecraft. In addition to miscellaneous tubing, pyro valves and filters, the propulsion subsystem also included a single gaseous helium tank used to pressurise the fuel and oxidiser tanks. The propulsion subsystem weighed 49. 7 kilograms. 4, record 10, English, - thruster

From its formal launch in 1996, Rolls-Royce has been involved in all main propulsion system elements of this project. During JSF’S Concept Demonstration phase, Rolls-Royce provided a range of components that enabled Lockheed Martin's X-35B prototype to prove its STOVL capabilities. Rolls-Royce supplied a LiftFan, driven by a shaft from the engine via a geared clutch, and a swivelling nozzle providing horizontal thrust for forward flight that can turn through 90 degrees to redirect the engine's exhaust flow down for vertical lift. 2, record 11, English, - swivelling%20nozzle

3, record 11, French, - tuy%C3%A8re%20orientable

Ariane 5 Launcher. Propulsion for the main cryogenic stage is provided by a single Vulcain engine fed by cryogenic fuels-liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen-which are stored in two tanks separated by a common bulkhead. Engine thrust is transmitted through a thrustframe to the upper composite by means of the aft skirt, the tank walls and the stage's forward skirt. This frame, containing most equipment required for stage operation, constitutes the propulsion bay. The forward skirt also takes up the thrust of the two large solid boosters. 4, record 14, English, - propulsion%20bay
