MAIN SERVO CONTROL [4 records]

Record 1 2012-07-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Landing Gear (Aeroindustry)
DEF

A system of controls for aircraft brakes that relieves hydraulic pressure at wheels that are about to skid or lock-up.

CONT

The anti-skid system limits the braking on each main wheel independently to allow maximum braking efficiency under all runway conditions. Basically, as a wheel almost stops rotating and is about to skid, the system detects this and reduces the braking pressure to that wheel, thus avoiding a skid.

CONT

The anti-skid system consists of two dual servo control valves, a wheel speed transducer in each main wheel, an anti-skid control box, four indicator lights and a control switch.

OBS

The anti-skid system is the airplane version of ... the anti-lock braking system (ABS) in cars.

OBS

anti-skid unit: term standardized by ISO.

Key term(s)
  • antiskid unit
  • antiskid device

CONT

OBS

système antidérapant : terme normalisé par l'ISO.

CONT

Control and servo tabs are employed on large aircraft to assist the pilot in moving the primary control surface. When the pilot applies manual force to a surface control in the cockpit, the control or servo tab moves in a direction opposite the desired motion of the control surface. Aerodynamic forces against the tab produce movement of the control surface in the proper direction.

OBS

Servo tabs are very similar in operation and appearance to the trim tabs... Servo tabs, sometimes referred to as flight tabs, are used primarily on the large main control surfaces. They aid in moving the control surface and holding it in the desired position. Only the servo tab moves in response to the movement of the cockpit control.

DEF

auxiliary airfoil: A secondary airfoil such as a slat, flap, or tab, that supplements or aids flight in some manner, as by creating an additional force or by providing a smooth airflow.

OBS

secondary control surface; auxiliary control surface : The flight control surfaces are divided differently depending upon the sources consulted. Some include two groups : 1. primary or main group 2. secondary or auxiliary group(e. g. flaps, spoilers, leading edge devices, trim tab, balance tab, servo tab) and others, three groups : 1. primary group 2. secondary group(e. g. trim tab, spring tab) 3. auxiliary group(e. g. wing flap, spoiler, speed brakes, slats and slots, leading edge flaps). The CUTA maintenance considers secondary control surface and auxiliary control surface as synonyms.
