4, record 1, French, - trame%20verte%20et%20bleue

biome. A biological subdivision that reflects the ecological and physiognomic character of the vegetation. Biomes are the largest geographical biotic communities that it is convenient to recognise. They broadly correspond with climatic regions, although other environmental controls are sometimes important. They are the equivalent to the concept of major plant formations in plant ecology, but are defined in terms of all living organisms and of their interaction with the environment (and not only with the dominant vegetation type). Typically, distinctive biomes are recognised for all the major climatic regions of the world, emphasising the adaptation of living organisms to their environment. 1, record 18, English, - boreal%2Dmontane

Not just simple responses to an external stimulus play a role in instinctive behavior; instinctive activity involves sequences of behavior that run a predictable course. These behaviors may last seconds, minutes, hours or even days. Exemplifying this, we can refer to a particular species of digger wasp, which finds and captures only honeybees. With no previous experience, a female wasp will unearth an intricate burrow, find a bee, paralyze it with a careful and precise sting to the neck, pilot back to her discreet home, and, when the larder has been supplied with the correct number of bees, lay an egg on one of them and seal the chamber.... Overall, one of the main distinctive features of instinctive activity is the ability to react to an external stimulus the correct way the first chance(and every time thereafter) the animal receives. This feature distinguishes this particular behavior from what ethnologists call learned behavior, which scientists have discovered are actions that take place from conditioning an animal to learn the right way. 1, record 21, English, - instinctive%20behaviour

Sector surveys were numbered consecutively(1 to 763) in a clockwise fashion by country around the continent, and their lengths calculated from aeronautical charts(scale 1 : 1, 000, 000). Records for each survey sector contain species counts, sector lengths, and "eco-unit" designation which defines a geographical entity of broadly similar habitat. Principle habitats in each survey sector are described and classified in intertidal, near-shore and inland zones(where appropriate). For regional analyses, eco-units are grouped into three main regions : North Coast, Atlantic Coast and Pacific Coast. Each survey sector segment has been identified on the Western Hemispheric coverage derived from the 1 : 1, 000, 000 Digital Chart of the World(DCW). 1, record 24, English, - South%20American%20Shorebird%20Survey%20Database

1, record 24, French, - Base%20de%20donn%C3%A9es%20sur%20les%20relev%C3%A9s%20d%27oiseaux%20de%20rivage%20en%20Am%C3%A9rique%20du%20Sud

The Carolinian life zone is the northernmost edge of the deciduous forest region in eastern North America, and is named after the Carolina states.... The climate of this region is the main reason it forms a unique ecosystem. Affectionately termed the "banana belt" of Canada, this zone boasts the warmest average annual temperatures, the longest frost-free seasons, and the mildest winters in Ontario.... Botanists have mapped the idstribution of plants in Ontario, and have established the boundary of the Carolinian life zone based on the northern limits of the many species which are found only within this region in Canada. 2, record 26, English, - Carolinian%20zone

Walnut wilt is a noninfectious disease which causes the sudden wilt and death of many plant species. The problem occurs in the beds of sensitive plants growing near walnut trees... The cause is an active compound known as juglone produced by these trees. Juglone has been isolated from the roots, leaves, bark, and husks. The compound can also be found in a narrow zone in the soil surrounding the living roots. Because of this limited distribution of the toxin, the position of juglone producing roots underground is reflected in the pattern of wilting plants above ground... Affected plants wilt suddenly and often show a browning of the vascular tissues just under the outer layers of the main stem... Some plants with mild tolerance may show stunting, lack of flower development, and/or lack of vigor. 2, record 27, English, - walnut%20wilt

The purpose of the Convention is to provide for the proper conservation of whale stocks and thus make possible the orderly development of the whaling industry. The main duty of IWC is to keep under review and revise as necessary the measures laid down in the Schedule to the Convention which govern the conduct of whaling throughout the world. These measures, among other things, provide for the complete protection of certain species designate specified areas as whale sanctuaries; set limits on the numbers and size of whales which may be taken; prescribe open and closed seasons and areas for whaling; and prohibit the capture of suckling calves and female whales accompanied by calves. Temporal dynamics or the temporal continuity of ecosystems... In forest management, a tree can be considered to go through four main development stages : a) A period of youth from seedling to low pole, characterized by strong individual sensitivity to intra and interspecific competition... b) An adult stage of development from high pole to young forest. Each tree has asserted itself in its respective strata, i. e., ensuring a vital space for energy(light, mineral salts) and water. In primary forest, competition obviously still takes place, particularly when climatic conditions prove difficult, bringing about a difference in vigour between individuals of the same species(thus in relative diameter). c) A period of maturity... d) A period of senescence... 2, record 41, English, - high%20pole

It should be emphasized that the integration of herbicides into the crop protection program or system needs careful consideration. Main factors to be considered are the rotation sequence, the most common weed or complexes of weeds in the field, and their density and duration. Effort should be made in choosing and matching the particular herbicide(s) with the specific weed species or complexes of weeds present, the geographic location, and edaphic and environmental conditions. Many combinations of herbicides result in either additive or synergistic effects on weeds. The activity of soil-acting herbicides depends on such factors as persistence, absorption properties of the soil, soil organic matter, soil types, soil moisture, and cultivation. Herbicide rates may need to be adjusted on the basis of soil texture and type. As well as effects of soil on the performance of herbicides, there are converse effects of the herbicides on soil properties.... 2, record 46, English, - integrated%20weed%20management
