Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The main differences between a military bugle and a posthorn are their shape and purpose. Coiled in a circle like miniature horn..., the posthorn literally gets its name from its association with the postal service... Posthorns signaled the arrival of mail coaches to secure "unhindered and speedy attention, "... They were also used to alert travelers to road conditions, to alert toll keepers of express mail coaches that required free passage, and to notify innkeepers of passengers in need of lodging. In addition to its primary signal function, the posthorn was used to perform melodies.... To serve this more melodic function, some posthorns were fitted with a single vent hole as well as keys and later, valves. 3, record 1, English, - post%20horn

While setting off the cars at Maxville, the conductor closed the angle cocks on the adjoining ends of the cars to be separated and did not vent the air, leaving the air brake line charged on the 74 cars left unattended on the main line. This practice is known in the industry as "bottling the air. "During a train service brake application, the head-end air brake pipe pressure is reduced below the tail-end air brake pipe pressure, creating a pressure differential. When the angle cock on a car is closed before the air pressure equalizes in the brake pipe, a pressure wave is created. This wave can initiate a brake release on the car, which will then cause the brakes to release on subsequent cars. 1, record 2, English, - bottling%20the%20air

Back vent. A pipe or system of pipes connected to the drainage pipes of a plumbing system for the purpose of supplying or removing air to relieve pressures above or below atmospheric. A back vent is that part of a vent line which connects directly with an individual trap beneath or behind a fixture and extends to a branch or main soil or waste pipe at any point higher than the fixture or fixture trap it serves. 6, record 3, English, - back%20vent
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 2 DEF
Anti-siphonage pipe. An air pipe in a plumbing system which admits air downstream of a water seal in a w.c., sink or washbasin, thus preventing the creation of a vacuum in the wake of water flushed down the drain and avoiding the breakage of the seal which such a vacuum could cause. The top of an anti-siphonage pipe may be connected to a ventilation pipe. 2, record 3, English, - back%20vent

9, record 3, French, - ventilation%20secondaire
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Les siphons sont susceptibles de se désamorcer. La norme suivante a été établie : P 41-201. Évacuation des eaux usées. Ventilation secondaire [...] 4, record 3, French, - ventilation%20secondaire
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS

6, record 3, French, - ventilation%20secondaire
