Colloidal Propulsion. Colloidal thrusters were developed extensively in the seventies but then work was stopped.... a number of problems prevented them from becoming a viable technology. In order to achieve useable thrusts(in the mN range) the researchers had to try and make large number arrays of the needle emitters. They found reproducible and consistent manufacturing to be difficult to achieve and as well as this, the size of the thrusters soon became inattractive. Another disadvantage was the extremely high voltage needed to achieve the perfomance, voltages well in excess of 10kV were required for operation and this was neither easy or desirable from a spacecraft power perspective. 1, record 12, English, - colloidal%20propulsion

Serving as a means of aerial reconnaissance and surveillance rather like "an extended pair of binoculars", DRAC enables an operator to gather, display and process real-time images at a distance of up to 10 kilometres, by day or by night. One of the intended missions of the DRAC system is to immediately detect all presence or advancing infantry units or vehicles at a particular location or within a specific corridor in the command zone of the reconnaissance units, without having to deploy any ground sensors. Each system consists of two fixed-wing aerial vehicles from the Tracker series, interchangeable gyro-stabilised visible-spectrum and infrared payloads, a data link and a portable, multifunction, ruggedised ground station. The latter in turn comprises two sets of functions : for mission preparation and control and for payload operation respectively. The complete equipment is packed in a rucksack that can be easily transported and deployed by two men. This feature makes DRAC particularly suitable for use by paratroopers. The responsibility for developing and manufacturing the DRAC systems has been conferred on EADS, as overall prime contractor, working in partnership with SurveyCopter. 2, record 18, English, - DRAC%20system

4, record 29, French, - processus

When a semiconductor manufacturer plans new facilities, he must consider the problem of providing sufficient quantities of water that is pure enough for use in the many critical cleaning and rinsing operations of the manufacturing process. Although most production facilities have similar, stringent requirements for high-purity water, their water sources may have widely varying characteristics, depending largely upon geographical location. Because the manufacturer has little or no control over the characteristics of the source water that must be treated to produce his ultrapure processing water, treatment system design demands a thorough knowledge of the purity requirements for a particular operation, and the physical and financial constraints on the proposed installation. 1, record 32, English, - deionized%20water%20equipment

As with "mutual recognition" of goods and services, the policy is that once accredited in one EC Member State, this accreditation will be accepted throughout the Community. As with testing and certification, there exists European specification for testing laboratories(EN 45 000), drawn from the UK/ISO model. Multinational manufacturing companies such as Hewlett-Packard and Rank Xerox are already harmonizing their European bases of operation to ISO 9000/EN 29 000. Thus, their suppliers are necessarily being accredited to BS 5750/ISO 9000 as a means of remaining capable of supplying companies throughout the EC. The European equivalent of Canadian testing and certification organizations are known as "Notified Bodies", who access the responsibility of manufacturers to the regulations in European Directives. At the present time, it is not certain who will decide upon the credibility of a third-country Notified Body, although the EOTC is set to perform this task.(Europe 1992. ... fiberboards belong to an earlier age(before 1945) when the wet-process manufacturing technique was dominant. In the wet-process technique, the wood is reduced to a coarse, fibrous form. The dry-process technique, used for products such as medium-density fiberboard, reduces the wood to fiber and forms the basic mat by a dry-sifting process. In contrast, the wet-process fiberboards carry the fiber in an aqueous suspension and form the mat, now called a wet lap, by draining the fiber suspension on a screen. The wet lap is then placed in a hot press, which has a screen, like a flyscreen, on the bottom side, permitting escape of the water that is squeezed out of the lap by hydraulic pressure in the press. The screen also permits escape of the steam generated in the final stages of the hot-pressing operation. The resulting product is then called screen-back hardboard, or smooth-one-side(S1S) hardboard. 1, record 47, English, - smooth%2Done%2Dside%20hardboard
