The Global Assessment of Human Induced Soil Degradation(GLASOD) was conducted by the International Soil Reference and Information Centre(ISRIC) at Wageningen, The Netherlands, as commissioned by the United Nations Environment Programme(UNEP). The Canadian Lightning Detection Network(CLDN) helps meteorologists and scientists detect and monitor thunderstorms at an early stage in their development. Eighty-three sensors are set up across the country forming the Canadian portion of a North American network which is the largest of its kind in the world. The CLDN is able to detect more than 100 000 lightning flashes an hour.
