Bike boxes are used at locations where left-turning cyclist volumes may be very high approaching an intersection. In this situation, the motor vehicle stop bar is set back approximately 4 m, helping cyclists move from the curb lane and turn left by positioning themselves in front of the motor vehicles. ... It should be noted that the application of bike boxes restricts right turns on red displays for motor vehicles.

Ski jump. A skier changes positions several times during a jump. The jumper enters a crouched(or tuck) position down an inrun, springs outward and upward upon takeoff, leans forward throughout flight to maintain lift, bends the hips and knees and places one foot in front of the other into a telemark position for landing, and then straightens up and slows down throughout the outrun. The range of possible landing positions is marked by three points(norm, table, and K, or critical) on the landing hill. The norm point and the table point indicate the beginning and ending, respectively, of the normal landing area, while the K-point marks the last safe landing spot on that hill.

One of the western boundary currents of the North Pacific subtropical gyre.

OBS

A deep, narrow, and swift current, it continues from the Philippines Current in a northeastward direction from Taiwan along the continental rise of the East China Sea, through Tokara Strait, and close to the eastern coast of Japan. At 35°N it separates from the coast and flows eastward into the Pacific as a free jet known as the Kuroshio Extension. It forms a marked temperature and salinity front with the Oyashio, which meets the Kuroshio Extension from the north and then flows parallel to it. Like all other western boundary currents, the Kuroshio develops instabilities and sheds eddies. Its unique characteristic is that south of Honshu it switches between three quasi-stable paths across the Izu Ridge at irregular intervals of 18 months to several years. Volume transport in the Kuroshio increases downstream and reaches 57 Sv... in the Kuroshio Extension, increasing seasonally by 15% during summer. The current's path in the extension is characterized by large meridional excursions in the so-called First and Second Crest at 145° and 152°E. On approaching the Shatsky Rise at 157°E, the Kuroshio Extension divides into several paths that tend to recombine before the Emperor Seamounts near 170°E cause the current to split again and disintegrate. The flow then continues as the North Pacific Current.

Il a un rôle analogue à celui du Gulf Stream dans l'océan Atlantique, transportant des eaux chaudes tropicales vers le Nord et les régions polaires.

It is generally southerly or southeasterly, occurring in front of depressions moving eastward across North Africa or the southeastern Mediterranean. The deep khamsins occur in spring with depressions traveling east-northeast across the northern Sahara. They are preceded by a heat wave lasting about three days and are followed by a duststorm. The passage of the depression is marked by a cold front bringing Mediterranean air and a sudden drop in temperature.

Stake used in setting out to indicate the edge of a pavement, the shoulder line, the top and toe of banks, etc., and recording the distance from the centre line and the amount of cut or fill required.

As soon as work is started on a cut or fill section, centerline stakes may be destroyed by equipment and many of the slope stakes will be removed. In order to eliminate resurveying of portions of the road to relocate these stakes, offset stakes are placed beyond the limits of construction and are used to relocate the original stakes. Offset stakes are set on a line at right angles to the centerline of the facility. From these, the slope/stakes can easily be located. After relocating a slope stake, the centerline stake can be relocated by measuring toward the centerline of the road the horizontal distance indicated on the slope stake and placing the new centerline stake there; Placement and marking. An offset stake will contain all the info given on the original slope stake plus the horizontal distance from the original slope stake to the offset stake. This offset distance is marked on the front of the stake and is circled to indicate that it is an offset reference. If the off-set stake is at a different elevation than the slope stake, then the cut or fill value will be increased or decreased by the difference in elevation. An offset stake placed a horizontal distance of 6 M and 0. 3 M above the right slope stake mentioned above would be placed and marked....

Placement and Marking-Shoulder stakes are set with the broad side of the stake facing the centerline. On the front of the stake is marked the amount of cut or fill at the location in relation to the finished grade at the outside edge of the shoulder. For convenience in checking elevations as work progresses, this stake may be set in such a manner that the top of the stake is at grade, or it may be left high and the amount of cut or fill noted from a keel(coloured marking crayon) mark on the stake. Underneath the cut of fill figure, the horizontal distance from the stake to the centerline is placed.... The keel mark is identified by the inverted V.

They are placed during construction to substitute for the regular types of construction stakes.
