MATERIAL CONSUMPTION [14 records]

Record 1 2023-11-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Real Estate
  • Environmental Management
  • Anti-pollution Measures
CONT

A "green lease" seeks to remove disincentives in a commercial lease to reduce energy, water and raw material consumption, increase recycling, as well as the use of sustainable materials in tenant improvements, and encourages sustainable practices by both the landlord and the tenant. A green lease works to ensure that tenants and landlords are required to adopt environmentally friendly practices.

CONT

There seem to be at least two approaches to a green lease: (i) a "paternalistic" approach where the obligations for reduced consumption and environmentally responsible behaviour are mandated by either the tenant or the landlord within the lease; and (ii) a "co-operative" model, where mutual objectives are set out in the lease for both parties to achieve, leading to responsibilities and liabilities for both parties.

CONT

To reduce oil consumption, a substitute material for bitumen needs to be found that maintains the same level of performance. This challenge is critical, especially in France, where 70, 000 km of roads are being renovated each and every year. [The organization] is focusing its attention on microalgae, identified as one of the biomasses of the future for producing a bio-sourced binder.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Biological Sciences
  • Biotechnology
DEF

Electrode which results from the union of an enzyme with an electronic sensor (an ion-selective electrode). The electrode is useful for the assay of organic and inorganic compounds, in a manner as simple as a pH measurement with a glass electrode.

CONT

The earliest enzyme electrodes consisted of an electrochemical sensor, a semipermeable membrane and an intermediate layer containing the enzyme. This system required diffusion of the substrate through the membrane, there to react with the enzyme and so causing production or consumption of a material which was then measured by the electrochemical sensor.... Later enzyme electrodes dispensed with the semipermeable membrane and to attain more rapid response times used enzymes immobilised on easily accessible surfaces of inorganic supports.

OBS

Indirect enzyme electrodes involve the detection of an enzyme reactant by a specific, usually ion-selective electrode. Direct enzyme electrodes incorporate redox enzymes coupled to an electrode with a flow of electrons between the cofactor involved in the enzyme reaction and the electrode.

DEF

CONT

The fish meal and fish oil industry derives its raw material from two sources : fish which are caught directly for the purposes of fish meal and fish body oil production, as opposed to those caught for the purposes of human consumption; trimmings resulting from the processing of fish from other fisheries, such as thosecaught for human consumption(e. g. gadoids, pelagic fish and salmon). Fish body oils are extracted from the same raw material as fish meal. Fish meal and fish body oils are used extensively in farming and aquaculture as important nutritional components of animal feeds.... Fish body oil is a co-product of fish meal. Fish oil represents around 5-6% of the total raw material body weight.
