While the concept of disruptive coloration has been standard textbook material... with applications ranging from military uniforms and equipment to art..., empirical verification of the functional mechanism underlying disruptive coloration has remained elusive for two main reasons. First, disruptive coloration invariably occurs in conjunction with background matching, so disentangling their individual contributions to camouflage is therefore challenging... Second, disruptive coloration is best defined in terms of its function(impairing recognition) rather than its appearance... 4, record 18, English, - disruptive%20coloration

Duct lining or wrapping - A duct lining or wrapping is usually a sheet of porous material placed on the inner or outer wall(s) of a duct to introduce sound attenuation and heat insulation. It is often used in air conditioning systems. Linings are more effective in attenuating sound that travels inside along the length of a duct, while wrappings are more effective in preventing sound from being radiated from the duct sidewalls into surrounding spaces 2, record 70, English, - pipe%20wrapping

Lagging, pipe wrapping. Pipes and large ducts often transmit and radiate unwanted noise from pumps, valves, fans, and other equipment into quiet areas through which they pass. The sound transmission loss of the wall can be increased by the addition of lagging or a jacket including sound absorptive material covered by a heavy, solid, impervious skin of plaster, cement, metal, or mass-loaded vinyl. 3, record 70, English, - pipe%20wrapping

It wasn’t until the 1980's when a new material, GaAlAs(gallium aluminum arsenide) was developed, that a rapid growth in the use of LEDs began to occur. GaAlAs technology provided superior performance over previously available LEDs. The brightness was over 10 times greater than standard LEDs due to increased efficiency and multi-layer, heterojunction type structures. The voltage required for operation was lower resulting in a total power savings. The LEDs could also be easily pulsed or multiplexed. This allowed their use in variable message and outdoor signs. LED were also designed into such application as bar code scanners, fiber optic data transmission systems, and medical equipment. Although this was a major breakthrough in LED Technology, there were still significant drawbacks to GaAlAs material. First, it was only available in a red 660nm wavelength. Second, the light output degradation of GaAlAs is greater than that of standard technology. 2, record 71, English, - gallium%20aluminum%20arsenide

The Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association(RCMA) recommends certain procedures for the application of asphalt aluminum roof coatings... When roll or brush-applying an asphalt aluminum, it is important to finish the strokes in basically the same direction to achieve the best aesthetics. If aluminum flakes orient in the same direction, they reflect light more uniformly. Spray equipment is typically an airless sprayer, however any spray unit capable of spraying the coating in an even pattern can be used. Consult the coating or spray equipment manufacturer for proper selection, as the viscosity of the material, the hose internal diameter size, and length of hose all help determine the type of spray equipment needed for the job. 2, record 74, English, - spray%20equipment

Could you please describe what is meant by hoe "ditch requirement"?... Typically, ditch excavation across the Prairies, of course, is undertaken by a wheel ditcher, a large bucket wheel trencher that excavates the material on to a conveyor belt and moves it off to the side of the trench line. A hoe ditch is a backhoe--you know, a Cat 235, 245, that type of equipment--that you have to utilize to excavate a trench where you have a fairly severe bend, because these bucket wheel ditchers can only go in a straight line, essentially. 4, record 89, English, - wheel%20trencher

Dry Storage of Spent Nuclear Fuel. Spent nuclear fuel is a highly radioactive material that is a byproduct of the fission of uranium in commercial nuclear power plants. Currently, spent nuclear fuel is stored in pools of water at most nuclear power plants. By designing equipment for spent nuclear fuel dry storage, the need for maintaining high cost pools can be eliminated. Designing efficient fuel dry storage equipment using Fluent's suite of CFD software enables reduction of costs while maintaining safety. Engineering controls help reduce exposure to potential hazards either by isolating the hazard or by removing it from the work environment. Engineering controls include mechanical ventilation and process enclosure. They are important because they are built into the work process. Engineering controls are usually preferred to other control measures such as the use of personal protective equipment. Substitution of a less hazardous material or industrial process is the best way to reduce a hazard and is often considered to be a type of engineering control. 2, record 97, English, - engineering%20control

2, record 97, French, - mesure%20d%27ing%C3%A9nierie

E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. has developed a novel approach to gain some of the advantages of a coextruded blow-molded bottle without the cost and complexity of multiple extruders and expensive scrap reclaim systems. Only minor modification of the basic equipment is required. A barrier resin is tailored for physical blending with a base resin in much the same way that colorant is blended with a resin. However, instead of producing a homogenized mix, the barrier resin is permitted to laminate in the base resin. Several random multiple layers of barrier resin of various lengths and sizes are created. Although no single layer completely covers the entire shape and surface of the bottle, barrier is created by the "tortuous path" the permeating gas must follow. A modified nylon material is the first to be used for this approach. Applications include fuel tanks and bottles for agricultural chemicals, thinners, and solvents. 1, record 100, English, - blended%20resin
