Disinfection process, mainly with chlorine, to prevent microbiological contamination of water can lead to the formation of hazardous disinfection by-products(DBPs) due to the reaction of chlorine with natural organic matter(NOM) present in the water.... Beyond specific health based thresholds, DBPs can represent a public health issue due to the potential chronic risk of adverse effects on human health(e. g., cancer, reproductive and developmental effects) and the high prevalence of exposure. Thus, DBPs constitute an important concern for water systems, especially systems supplied by surface waters.... Recently, a technique known as differential UV [ultraviolet] absorbance(DUVA) has been developed that could provide a sensitive and highly specific indicator for DBP formation resulting from chlorination. 2, record 1, English, - differential%20UV%20absorbance

2, record 16, French, - ordre%20de%20livraison

The main threat so far to the recording industry, is that as each successive copy is identical to the original; there is no loss in quality no matter the generation of the copy. It was precisely for this reason that the recording industry so fervently opposed the introduction of DAT[ 2] technology in the late 1980s, and succeeded in the passage of the Audio Home Recording Act of 1992. The issue of copying music onto a cassette did not cause much concern prior to the introduction of DAT as the cost of making copies was restricted by the price of cassette tapes-and each successive copy was of poorer quality than the last. There was little market for second-, third-, or fourth-generation scratchy home recordings. 3, record 21, English, - Audio%20Home%20Recording%20Act
Record number: 21, Textual support number: 2 OBS
The Audio Home Recording Act of 1992 (AHRA) amended the United States copyright law by adding chapter 10 "Digital Audio Recording Devices and Media." The act enabled the release of recordable digital formats such as Sony and Phillips’ Digital Audio Tape DAT without fear of contributory infringement lawsuits. The RIAA and music publishers, concerned that consumers ability to make perfect digital copies of music would destroy the market for audio recordings, had threatened to sue both companies and lobbied Congress to pass lesgislation imposing mandatory copy protection technology and royalties on devices and media. The AHRA is often overlooked, but it establishes a number of important precedents in US copyright law that that defined the debate between device makers and the content industry for the ensuing two decades. 2, record 21, English, - Audio%20Home%20Recording%20Act

BCCA is Your Voice. Whether it's promoting driver safety, helping an individual member navigate a government bureaucracy, or commenting on an issue in the media-member advocacy is an important role for the British Columbia Automobile Association. BCAA regularly seeks member input on issues that matter to motorists, and takes positions based on majority opinion. We represent motorists’ interests to all levels of government, consulting with government officials on legislation, taxation and transportation planning. We help raise awareness of critical issues by providing information and comment to the media.
