MATURE GREEN [7 records]

Record 1 2026-02-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plant and Crop Production
CONT

determinate(D) plants are more compact, bushy, and short-lived in nature. They generally have one main growth spurt, reach a certain size, and then yield a single large set of fruit all at once(or during a short period of time). Once a mature determinate plant has produced its main “bumper crop”, the plant will drastically slow down in production or stop growing entirely. Bush tomatoes and bush green beans are prime examples of determinate plants.

When leaves from mature trees that had turned from red to green were used, the frequency of shoot bud formation decreased. The number of vegetative buds was higher in red leaves from seedlings compared with young red leaves from mature trees. Secondary shoot buds also developed on leaves of cultured epiphyllous shoots from both seedlings and mature trees.

CONT

Freshly harvested "green" wild rice is invariably on the damp side. It must commence drying, or "curing," almost immediately, or souring and mold will develop, especially in broken or crushed grains. Another purpose of the curing period is to give the immature grains a chance to ripen. Given this opportunity, a good number of the soft grains will get hard and gain the dark brown or black color of a ripe grain.

CONT

The HLB bacteria can infect most citrus cultivars, species and hybrids and even some citrus relatives.... The juice from affected fruit is low in soluble solids, high in acids and abnormally bitter. The fruit retains its green color at the navel end when mature, which is the reason for the common name "citrus greening disease. "This fruit is of no value because of poor size and quality. There is no cure for the disease and rapid tree removal is critical for prevention of spread.
